Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded a fresh wave of withdrawals on May 28, with a total net outflow of $229 million. This marked the ninth consecutive day of outflows, signaling sustained caution among institutional investors tracking Bitcoin.

Data from SoSoValue shows that selling pressure remains broad-based across major ETF issuers, with key funds continuing to see redemptions.

Ninth Straight Day of Bitcoin ETF Outflows

The latest figures confirm a continued trend of capital leaving Bitcoin spot ETFs. The $229 million net outflow on May 28 extends a nine-day streak of negative flows. This pattern suggests investors are still reducing exposure despite Bitcoin’s broader market stability. Analysts often view extended outflow streaks as a sign of short-term uncertainty in institutional positioning.

Bitcoin ETF Flows Show Mixed Pressure as IBIT and GBTC Record Continued Outflows

The largest single-day outflow came from BlackRock’s IBIT fund, which saw $178 million exit. Despite this, IBIT still holds a strong historical net inflow of $63.875 billion, showing that long-term demand remains intact. However, the recent withdrawals point to a shift in short-term sentiment among large investors.

Grayscale Investments’ GBTC also continued to face pressure, recording $26.19 million in outflows on the day. Its cumulative net outflows have now reached $26.616 billion, reflecting a sustained trend of capital leaving the fund since the launch of competing spot Bitcoin ETFs.

This ongoing rotation from older products to newer ETF structures has continued to shape overall Bitcoin ETF flow dynamics in recent months.

ETF Market Size Still Strong Despite Pressure

Despite the persistent outflows, total net assets across Bitcoin spot ETFs remain substantial at $94.25 billion. The ETF net asset ratio now stands at 6.39% of Bitcoin’s total market capitalization, while cumulative net inflows remain positive at $55.788 billion.

These figures indicate that while short-term sentiment has weakened, overall institutional participation in Bitcoin ETFs remains elevated.

What This Means for Bitcoin Markets

Sustained outflows often reflect caution from institutional investors during periods of uncertainty. However, they do not always indicate a structural reversal in demand.

For now, market participants are closely watching whether the trend stabilizes or extends further. Continued outflows could add short-term pressure, while a reversal may signal renewed confidence in Bitcoin exposure through regulated ETF products.
