- Bitcoin nears $80,000 after hot CPI data raises selling pressure.
- Whale conviction faces a test as BTC eyes $78,000 support and $88,000 resistance.
Bitcoin is approaching the $80,000 level after hotter-than-expected consumer price index (CPI) data increased pressure on the market. Despite recent whale accumulation, questions remain over whether large holders will keep their newly acquired Bitcoin if prices fall further.
The $80,000 level is becoming a critical support zone as several market indicators point to strong buying interest around that price. However, a breakdown could trigger additional selling from leveraged traders and push BTC toward lower support.

Bitcoin $80,000 Support Draws Attention
Glassnode identified $80,000 as a key level for Bitcoin, noting that Binance’s spot order book contains its largest bid cluster around that price. The concentration of buy orders suggests that traders are prepared to purchase BTC if the price falls to that zone.
CryptoQuant’s 365-day moving average also sits near $80,000, adding to the level’s importance. When multiple market indicators converge around the same price, traders often watch closely for signs of support or a potential breakdown.
However, strong bids do not guarantee that Bitcoin will hold. If selling pressure overwhelms demand, BTC could fall below $80,000 and expose the market to further losses.
BTC Risks Falling Toward $78,000
A drop below $80,000 could trigger liquidations among leveraged traders who opened long positions near that level. Glassnode warned that these forced sales could add to the downward pressure.
Bitcoin could then approach $78,000, where the True Market Mean sits. This metric tracks the average price paid by active investors for their coins and can help traders assess whether the market is trading above or below the broader cost basis of active participants.
A move toward $78,000 would put further pressure on buyers to defend their positions. It could also test the conviction of large holders who recently added to their Bitcoin holdings.
Bitcoin Faces Resistance at $88,000
On the upside, $88,000 is the next major level to watch. Glassnode identified this price as the cost basis for investors who bought Bitcoin six to 12 months ago.
The same level also contains a cluster of short liquidations. If Bitcoin rises toward $88,000, forced buying from traders betting against the market could help accelerate the recovery.
Glassnode noted that a daily close above $88,000, combined with renewed inflows into spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), would indicate that buyers are absorbing the available supply.
Such a move would strengthen the case for a recovery. Without a sustained break above resistance and improving ETF demand, however, Bitcoin could remain under pressure.
Will Bitcoin Whales Hold Their Coins?
Whether large Bitcoin holders retain their recent purchases remains uncertain. Whale accumulation can signal confidence in a potential recovery, but buying activity alone does not establish that these investors will continue holding if the market weakens.
For now, traders are watching the $80,000 support zone and the $88,000 resistance level for clearer direction. A break below support could expose BTC to $78,000, while a daily close above $88,000 alongside renewed ETF inflows would provide a stronger recovery signal.
Until Bitcoin moves decisively beyond either level, the market remains caught between the risk of further losses and the possibility of a rebound.
