Bitcoin Price Retreats From $90K as $88,000 Support Faces Pressure

Bitcoin’s price action has entered a cautious phase after another rejection near the $90,000 mark. While the broader structure still shows signs of short-term stability, the market now faces a critical test that could determine whether the pullback is temporary or the start of a deeper move lower.

Bitcoin Struggles to Hold Above $90,000

Bitcoin recently formed a base above the $88,000 support zone before staging a recovery above $88,500. Buyers managed to push the price through $89,000 and $89,500, reclaiming the 76.4% Fibonacci retracement level of the previous drop from $91,098 to $86,007.

The rally briefly extended above $90,000, but selling pressure quickly emerged. The price failed to hold gains and slipped back below $89,000, signaling hesitation among bulls near higher levels.

At the time of writing, BTC trades above $88,200 and remains supported by the 100-hourly simple moving average. A rising channel has also formed on the hourly BTC/USD chart, with support near $88,100, suggesting that buyers are still defending the lower range.

Resistance Levels Limit Upside Attempts

For Bitcoin to regain upward traction, it must first stabilize above $88,000. Immediate resistance stands near $89,150, followed by a stronger barrier at $89,800. A decisive close above $89,800 could reopen the path toward $90,250.

If buyers manage to reclaim higher ground, further resistance appears near $91,200. Beyond that, the $92,000 and $92,500 levels may challenge any extended recovery. Until those zones are cleared, upside attempts may continue to face selling pressure.

Downside Risks Remain if Support Breaks

Failure to move above $89,150 could trigger another pullback. Initial support lies at $88,200, with the psychological $88,000 level acting as a key line in the sand. A breakdown below this area may expose BTC to deeper losses.

The next notable support sits near $87,200, followed by $87,000. If bearish pressure intensifies, the main support around $86,000 could come into focus, where recovery attempts may prove difficult in the short term.

Technical Indicators Signal Caution

Technical indicators reflect a guarded market tone. The hourly MACD continues to build in bearish territory, while the hourly RSI remains below the 50 level. These signals suggest that buyers lack clear strength for now.

As Bitcoin consolidates near critical support, traders are watching closely. A firm hold above $88,000 could favor another rebound, while a breakdown may shift the short-term outlook toward further downside.
