- Uniswap’s UNI token jumped 40% after BlackRock’s tokenized BUIDL fund became tradable via UniswapX.
- This move highlights growing institutional adoption of blockchain-based financial products.
Uniswap’s UNI token jumped nearly 40% in minutes after the platform enabled trading for BlackRock’s tokenized BUIDL fund through UniswapX integration. The event marks a significant bridge between traditional finance and decentralized exchanges, drawing both trader and institutional attention.
BlackRock Fund Trading Goes Live on Uniswap Rails
On February 11, Uniswap Labs announced a partnership with Securitize to make BlackRock’s USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund, known as BUIDL, available for trading via its UniswapX request-for-quote system. Investors can now swap BUIDL with approved counterparties using smart contracts, ensuring instant and automated settlement.
Hayden Adams, CEO of Uniswap Labs, highlighted that the integration aims to make markets faster and cheaper. Meanwhile, Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo emphasized that the collaboration introduces traditional financial standards to blockchain trading. BlackRock’s global head of digital assets, Robert Mitchnick, called the launch “a notable step” for tokenized funds in decentralized finance, confirming that BlackRock has also invested in the Uniswap ecosystem, though specifics remain undisclosed.
Immediate Market Reaction and UNI Price Surge
The news triggered a swift market response, with UNI soaring from its previous levels to $4.57 within 30 minutes. The excitement around institutional involvement underscored how closely decentralized finance tokens are now linked to major financial players. As of the latest data from CoinGecko, UNI has settled near $3.40, maintaining a 5% gain over 24 hours despite longer-term declines. Over the past seven days, the token is down roughly 9%, and over the past month, it has fallen more than 35%, indicating that the recent surge was a short-term response to the announcement rather than a reversal of the downtrend.
Tokenized Assets Continue Attracting Major Institutions
BlackRock’s move is part of a growing trend of institutional adoption of blockchain-based financial products. Earlier this year, Ethereum’s official X account reported that 35 major firms, including JPMorgan and Fidelity, have launched blockchain-related services. These include tokenized stocks, funds, stablecoins, and deposit tokens.
Securitize, which manages over $4 billion in assets, has collaborated with several asset managers to tokenize funds. By combining its compliance-focused platform with Uniswap’s decentralized liquidity, these efforts demonstrate a pathway for regulated investors to access blockchain markets while remaining within whitelisted frameworks.
UNI’s recent volatility highlights the growing influence of institutional activity on decentralized finance, showing how quickly token prices can react to traditional finance integration.
