Chainlink Unlocks $5B in Bitcoin Liquidity for Monad DeFi

Chainlink has taken another major step in expanding Bitcoin’s role in decentralized finance by deploying its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to bridge cbBTC onto the Monad blockchain. Users can now deploy over $5 billion in Bitcoin-backed assets across Monad’s rapidly growing DeFi ecosystem.

Chainlink used CCIP to securely transfer cbBTC from the Base network to Monad, enabling developers and users to access deep Bitcoin liquidity without leaving the Monad environment. The team revealed the integration on March 2, 2026, immediately positioning Monad as a new hub for Bitcoin-linked financial applications.

What cbBTC Brings to the Monad Network

cbBTC is a wrapped version of Bitcoin launched by Coinbase, fully backed 1:1 by custodied BTC reserves. Since its debut in September 2024, cbBTC has steadily expanded across multiple networks, including Ethereum, Base, Solana, and Arbitrum. Monad now joins that list, broadening access to Bitcoin liquidity for its users.

As an EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain, Monad is designed for high-performance financial infrastructure. The network can process up to 10,000 transactions per second while maintaining near-instant finality, making it well-suited for advanced DeFi activity built around high-value assets like Bitcoin.

New Opportunities for DeFi Builders and Users

With cbBTC live on Monad, users can deploy Bitcoin-backed capital across lending platforms, decentralized exchanges, and structured financial products. Early adopters include Curvance and Neverland, which are launching some of the first CBBC-powered markets on the network.

For developers, the integration creates a foundation for building spot trading pairs, derivatives, and algorithmic strategies tied to Bitcoin. Monad’s fast settlement speeds and low transaction costs further enhance its appeal as a base layer for sophisticated financial products.

Chainlink CCIP and the Push for Secure Cross-Chain Value

Chainlink’s CCIP uses layered decentralized verification to reduce cross-chain security risks, an issue that has historically challenged blockchain interoperability. Since going live, CCIP has facilitated more than $28 trillion in on-chain transaction value, underscoring its role as critical infrastructure for large-scale asset movement.

As Bitcoin-backed assets continue scaling into the tens of billions, the connection between cbBTC and Monad highlights how secure cross-chain technology is reshaping Bitcoin’s utility. The move marks another milestone in bringing Bitcoin deeper into the heart of decentralized finance.
