Dogecoin Price Rallies 30% as DOGE Targets Key $0.166 Level

Dogecoin has started the year strongly, surging over 30% in just four days after months of weak performance, and outperforming several major cryptocurrencies. The rebound has sparked renewed interest across the broader memecoin market, signaling an improvement in sentiment among traders.

The rally comes as sentiment across the crypto market improves, with speculative assets finding fresh demand after a prolonged downturn. Dogecoin’s recent strength also reflects a wider recovery among memecoins, which had been trading near historic lows relative to the altcoin market.

Memecoin Sector Shows Signs of Revival

Dogecoin’s rebound is not happening in isolation. The total market capitalization of memecoins has climbed by over 30% in recent days, reaching approximately $47.8 billion. This follows a sharp drop in the meme-to-altcoin dominance ratio, which fell to around 0.032 in December. At that level, memecoins accounted for just 3% of the total altcoin market value.

Historically, such extreme readings have preceded periods of renewed interest in memecoins. Market observers note that the last time this ratio reached similar lows, a strong memecoin cycle followed. Recent gains across several popular meme tokens suggest that the sector may be attempting another recovery phase, although sustainability remains uncertain.

Institutional and Derivatives Activity in Focus

Dogecoin’s price recovery has also been mirrored in related financial products. The 21Shares 2x Dogecoin ETF (TXXD) has ranked among the best-performing exchange-traded funds at the start of 2026, highlighting increased exposure from traditional market participants.

In the derivatives market, Dogecoin’s open interest rose to 13.47 billion DOGE on January 2, marking its highest level since the October leverage flush. Although open interest has since eased slightly to 12.68 billion DOGE, prices have continued to trend higher. This divergence suggests cautious positioning among traders, with some remaining skeptical about the durability of the rally.

Key Levels to Watch for Dogecoin Price

From a technical perspective, Dogecoin has moved above its 50-day Exponential Moving Average, a development that places focus on the $0.166 resistance level near the 100-day EMA. A sustained move above this zone could open the door toward the $0.181 area, which aligns with the 200-day EMA.

On the downside, immediate support is seen around $0.142. A break below this level, followed by a slip under the 20-day EMA, could expose Dogecoin to a deeper pullback toward $0.121. Technical indicators show strength above neutral levels, though overextended conditions may increase the risk of short-term consolidation.

As Dogecoin tests critical resistance, the coming days may prove decisive in determining whether this rebound develops into a broader trend or fades into another temporary rally.
