Dogecoin Whales Buy 200 Million DOGE as Open Interest Reaches $1.1 Billion

  • Dogecoin whales bought 200 million DOGE as open interest topped $1.1 billion.
  • However, DOGE must break above $0.074 to strengthen its recovery.

Dogecoin whales purchased 200 million DOGE as futures open interest climbed above $1.1 billion, putting the memecoin back on traders’ watchlists. While the buying points to growing interest, DOGE still needs to overcome key technical resistance before a stronger recovery can take shape.

Dogecoin Whales Increase Their Holdings

Recent on-chain data shows that large Dogecoin holders purchased 200M DOGE through Robinhood. The transaction was worth approximately $14 million, based on DOGE trading near $0.07.

The buying came as Dogecoin continued moving within a narrow trading range instead of extending its recent losses. Large purchases often improve market confidence, but they do not always lead to immediate price gains.

The market will now watch whether these newly acquired coins remain in long-term wallets or return to exchanges. If whales continue holding their positions, the accumulation could strengthen investor confidence over time.

Futures Activity Signals Growing Trader Interest

Derivatives data also points to rising market participation.

According to CoinGlass, Dogecoin futures trading volume jumped 75% to nearly $1 billion. Meanwhile, open interest increased by 4.34% to approximately $1.1 billion, showing that traders are opening more leveraged positions.

DOGE has remained relatively stable around $0.073 after trading between roughly $0.071 and $0.075 for most of the past week. Over the last seven days, the memecoin has posted a modest gain of around 1%, although it remains down about 13% over the past month.

The increase in open interest suggests traders expect a larger price move. However, higher leverage can also increase volatility if the market moves sharply in either direction.

Technical Indicators Show Early Signs of Improvement

Dogecoin’s technical outlook is beginning to improve, but the broader trend remains weak.

The price continues to trade below its 20-day, 50-day, 100-day, and 200-day exponential moving averages. These moving averages remain important resistance levels that buyers must reclaim before a stronger recovery can develop.

At the same time, momentum indicators have become more encouraging.

The RSI has recovered to around 40 after bouncing from oversold levels. While this suggests selling pressure has eased, the indicator remains below the neutral level of 50.

MACD indicator is also attempting a bullish crossover. Although this could support short-term strength, traders will likely look for stronger price confirmation before calling a trend reversal.

Meanwhile, the On-Balance Volume (OBV) indicator continues to trend lower despite flattening recently. This shows that spot buying has not yet matched the increase seen in derivatives trading.

Key Price Levels to Watch

Liquidation data highlights several important price zones that could determine Dogecoin’s next move.

The largest cluster of short liquidations sits near the $0.074 level, just above the current price. A break above this area could trigger short covering and push DOGE toward the next resistance zone between $0.0755 and $0.076.

On the downside, significant long liquidation levels are located near $0.071, with another liquidity zone between $0.069 and $0.070. If DOGE falls below $0.071, additional selling pressure could increase market volatility and send the price closer to $0.070.

Outlook

Dogecoin has received a boost from fresh whale accumulation and growing derivatives activity, but the overall trend has not yet turned bullish. The token continues to trade below every major moving average, showing that sellers still hold the advantage.

For buyers, a sustained move above $0.074 would strengthen the recovery outlook and could open the door to higher prices. Until then, traders will closely monitor whale activity, futures positioning, and key support levels to determine whether DOGE can build on its recent stability or face another leg lower.
