- Ethereum exchange balances have dropped to record lows, while staking queues surge to $3.7B worth of ETH.
- Institutions now hold nearly 10% of ETH, with treasuries accumulating over 3% in two months.
- Despite these bullish signals, retail selling keeps ETH trading flat at $4,368.
- Analysts believe the setup mirrors previous major ETH rallies, with supply shifting from weak to strong hands.
Ethereum Supply Drains While Bitcoin Climbs
Ethereum (ETH) is showing classic signs of a supply shock. Exchange balances have fallen sharply while Bitcoin reserves rise to multi-month highs, signaling strong long-term conviction in ETH. Analyst Crypto Gucci warns, “Investors are hoarding ETH and dumping BTC…ETH supply shock incoming.”
Meanwhile, Ethereum’s staking queues have surged to 860,369 ETH—worth $3.7 billion—waiting to be staked, marking the highest levels since the Shanghai upgrade enabled withdrawals two years ago.

Staking and Institutional Accumulation Fuel Confidence
Over 35.6 million ETH (31% of total supply) is already staked, valued at approximately $162 billion. Everstake notes that this reflects growing trust in Ethereum’s long-term value, supported by both institutional and retail participants.
Institutions now hold nearly 10% of ETH supply. Treasury companies have scooped up more than 3% in just two months, adding 4.7 million ETH ($20.4B) to corporate holdings. This accumulation drives validator demand, further reducing the risk of a mass exit.
Retail Selling Suppresses Price Momentum
Despite the bullish fundamentals, ETH trades flat at $4,368, down 12% from its August 24 all-time high. Analysts note retail selling is offsetting whale and institutional accumulation.
DeFi analyst Ignas points out that holders with 100–1,000 ETH are selling, while whales with 10,000–100,000 ETH continue “loading fast.” Sigil Fund CIO Dady Fiskantes adds that some investors rotate spot ETH into Ethereum ETFs to reduce custody risks.
Analyst Tradinator summarizes the situation succinctly: “Retail’s exit liquidity has always been the ignition fuel. Once they’re fully flushed out, ETH rips. The flat price is the bullish signal.”
Why Analysts See a Bullish Setup
Ethereum’s fundamentals—record-low exchange balances, staking queues at historic highs, and strong institutional accumulation—set the stage for a major rally. The current flat price masks a transition of ETH from weak hands to strong holders, a pattern preceding past bull runs.

Ethereum’s supply dynamics may seem paradoxical to casual observers. Yet the combination of staking demand, institutional accumulation, and retail selling creates a classic setup that has historically preceded explosive moves. For ETH investors, the flat price may be the most bullish signal of all.
