- An early Ethereum ICO wallet transferred 10,000 ETH worth $22.88 million after 10.8 years of inactivity.
- The move shows a massive return on a $3,100 investment.
An early Ethereum investor has moved a large amount of ETH after more than a decade of inactivity. The transfer highlights how dormant ICO wallets are becoming active again as Ethereum’s value rises.
Dormant Ethereum ICO Wallet Becomes Active After 10.8 Years
A wallet linked to the Ethereum initial coin offering has transferred 10,000 ETH, worth about $22.88 million, after sitting idle for 10.8 years.
The address, known as 0xCD59, took part in the 2015 ICO when Ethereum was priced at around $0.31 per ETH. The investor spent roughly $3,100 to acquire 10,000 ETH at that time.
Today, that same holding reflects a return of about 7,381x, turning a small early investment into millions.
Careful ETH Transfer Before Full Movement
On-chain data shows the wallet did not move funds blindly. The holder first sent two small test transactions of 0.005 ETH and 0.01 ETH to confirm the receiving address.
After verification, the remaining balance of nearly 9,999.98 ETH was transferred to a new wallet.
The receiving address has no previous transaction history, and none of the funds were sent to exchanges.
No Exchange Activity Suggests No Immediate Sell
The absence of exchange transfers suggests the ETH was not immediately sold. Instead, the movement may reflect internal wallet restructuring or improved security practices.
Many early Ethereum holders are now moving funds from older wallets to modern storage solutions. These include hardware wallets and multi-signature systems designed to improve asset protection.
Growing Pattern of Dormant ICO Wallet Activity
This transfer is part of a wider trend in 2026, where early Ethereum wallets are becoming active again after years of silence.
Recent examples include:
- A wallet dormant for over 10 years, moving 100 ETH
- Another early ICO participant transferred 145,000 ETH, worth around $276 million
These movements suggest more early holders are rechecking or securing long-held assets as Ethereum prices increase.
What this Ethereum ICO wallet ETH transfer mean for the market
Large wallet activations often attract attention, but they do not always signal selling pressure. In many cases, they reflect security upgrades or long-term holding strategies.
However, they do highlight the scale of unrealized gains among early Ethereum participants and the continued influence of ICO-era wallets on the market narrative.
The recent Ethereum ICO wallet ETH transfer of $22.88 million underscores how early crypto investments continue to resurface years later. Whether for security or strategy, dormant wallets remain an important part of Ethereum’s on-chain activity landscape.
