Ethereum Rises Above $2,000 as Bitmine Adds $103 Million in ETH

  • Ethereum rose above $2,000 as Bitmine bought $103M in ETH.
  • Bearish signals keep the near-term outlook uncertain.

Ethereum price staged a sharp recovery on Monday, climbing back above the key $2,000 psychological support. The rebound followed renewed institutional buying and a brief Bitcoin rally, temporarily lifting risk-on sentiment in crypto markets.

Bitmine’s Massive Purchase Boosts Ethereum

The recent upswing was driven largely by Bitmine, the world’s largest Ethereum treasury company, which acquired 50,928 ETH valued at roughly $103 million. This latest purchase brings Bitmine’s total Ethereum holdings to 4,473,587 ETH, worth nearly $9 billion at current prices. Institutional buying like this often encourages retail investors, offering temporary support for the altcoin.

Ethereum surged 7.5% to an intraday high of $2,072 before stabilizing near $2,008, nearly 8% above its recent drop following geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Despite this recovery, the altcoin has struggled to sustain an extended uptrend.

Market Dynamics and Short Liquidations

Ethereum’s rebound coincided with Bitcoin rallying from intraday lows near $65,000 to over $69,800 after strong U.S. manufacturing data sparked a brief return of risk appetite. Short sellers were caught off guard by Ethereum’s climb, resulting in over $85 million in liquidations in ETH leveraged markets over 24 hours, with $57 million coming from short positions.

However, market momentum appears to be cooling. Bitcoin’s repeated failure to surpass the $70,000 resistance level has limited Ethereum’s upside, while some investors have rotated capital back into safe-haven assets like gold amid ongoing Middle East tensions.

Technical Outlook Remains Bearish

Ethereum’s seasonal performance has also been under pressure, posting six consecutive red months since September 2025, the longest losing streak in its history. Technical indicators continue to suggest caution:

  • The weekly chart confirms a head and shoulders pattern, a classic bearish reversal signal.
  • The Supertrend indicator remains red, signaling stronger selling pressure.
  • Chaikin Money Flow shows a negative reading of -0.15, reflecting ongoing capital outflows.

Traders are closely watching the $1,800 support zone. A breakdown below this level could trigger further declines, while a move past $2,200, the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement, may invalidate the bearish outlook and signal potential trend reversal.

Ethereum’s near-term trajectory remains uncertain, balancing institutional support against technical and macroeconomic pressures. Investors will be watching key support and resistance zones to gauge whether the $2,000 recovery can hold.
