Cassatt’s observations shed light on the growing discontent among Ethereum community members regarding the shift to PoS. She highlighted sentiments expressed privately, where some wished Ethereum had remained with the PoW consensus algorithm.
In a bid to bolster support for the switch to PoS, a community member posed a question, suggesting that PoS is in the best interest of Ethereum’s future. The transition from PoW to PoS, dubbed “The Merge,” occurred over a year ago, combining Ethereum’s mainnet with the Beacon Chain. This merger signaled the abandonment of miners in favor of validators, who stake ETH to add blocks to the blockchain.
One of the significant benefits touted by proponents of this transition is the drastic reduction in energy consumption, estimated at 99.95%. Buterin, speaking at an Ethereum Community Conference, highlighted The Merge’s potential to fulfill a significant portion of Ethereum’s growth plan.
