Through Orobo’s latest deployment, products now receive verifiable digital records anchored on the IOTA Rebased mainnet, making compliance with upcoming EU rules more straightforward.
The Rise of Digital Product Passports
Digital Product Passports (DPPs) are designed to store essential product details such as origin, composition, and circularity. Instead of scattered data across multiple systems, DPPs offer a unified, traceable record that regulators and companies can rely on. Orobo’s model assigns each product a digital twin linked to lifecycle information, including production steps, transport updates, and recycling events.

Industries benefiting from this rollout already include electric vehicle batteries, construction materials, consumer electronics, textiles, and food and beverages. By providing a single source of truth, companies can manage records from creation to end-of-life handling with fewer compliance hurdles.
Traceability and Privacy at the Core
The IOTA Trust Framework ensures that each product record remains traceable and tamper-resistant. Sensitive business data can be hashed rather than exposed directly on-chain, allowing verification without revealing confidential information. Custom Move contracts document events across the product lifecycle, from production to transport and recovery, maintaining consistent records across multiple participants.
IOTA’s Gas Station feature further simplifies adoption by removing the need for every participant to manage tokens before using the system. This lowers barriers for suppliers, manufacturers, recyclers, and other actors interacting with product records.
IOTA Expands Its Regulatory and Industry Reach
The framework’s impact is already evident beyond product passports. Forum InCyber in France recently highlighted verifiable credentials built on IOTA, with Turing Space representing the Netherlands. Additionally, IOTA has launched a Regulatory Affairs hub to support MiCA compliance, providing resources, technical documentation, and public compliance materials for ecosystem partners.
The framework also reinforces IOTA’s growing presence in global trade digitization. Previous reports have linked IOTA to projects in cross-border trade, governance pilots in Kenya, and broader digital identity solutions.
