- JPMorgan launches JPM Coin on Ethereum for institutional clients.
- Retail access and direct fund payments remain unavailable.
JPMorgan has launched its JPM Coin deposit token on Ethereum, giving institutional clients another way to transfer dollar deposits across a public blockchain. The October 19 launch expands the service beyond Base, but ordinary retail users still cannot access it.
JPM Coin Expands to Ethereum Mainnet
JPM Coin, which trades under the ticker JPMD, digitally represents a bank deposit and supports peer-to-peer transfers between JPMorgan’s institutional clients. Its arrival on Ethereum adds the network to Base, where the token became available to institutional clients in November 2025.
The move gives eligible clients another option for moving money on-chain. It also places JPMorgan’s deposit token on the same blockchain where institutions already trade tokenized assets, manage collateral and interact with other market participants.
However, access remains restricted to JPMorgan’s institutional clients. The launch does not open JPM Coin to the public, and Ethereum wallet holders cannot automatically use the service simply because it is available on the network.
JPM Coin Joins JPMorgan’s Tokenized Funds on Ethereum
The expansion brings JPMorgan’s deposit token closer to its existing tokenized investment products on Ethereum.
In December 2025, JPMorgan Asset Management launched the My OnChain Net Yield Fund (MONY), a tokenized money market fund available to qualified investors through the Morgan Money platform.
The bank followed with the JPMorgan OnChain Liquidity-Token Money Market Fund (JLTXX) in May 2026. The US-registered government money market fund also serves qualified investors through Morgan Money.
Although JPMD, MONY and JLTXX operate on Ethereum, they serve different purposes. JPMD represents bank deposits used for payments, while MONY and JLTXX provide investment exposure through tokenized fund shares.
Their presence on the same blockchain does not mean they are directly connected. JPMorgan has not announced a live feature allowing clients to subscribe to or redeem either fund using JPM Coin.
Programmable Treasury Could Be a Future Use
JPMorgan has also identified programmable treasury operations as a potential use for JPM Coin. This could allow institutional clients to build payment instructions into their digital wallet systems and automate certain treasury activities.
For businesses managing large dollar balances, blockchain-based transfers could offer another way to move funds between counterparties. However, programmable treasury remains a potential application rather than a confirmed new service arising from the Ethereum launch.
The immediate change is straightforward: institutional clients now have another public blockchain through which they can transfer dollar deposits using JPM Coin.
What JPMorgan’s Ethereum Expansion Means
JPMorgan’s decision to bring JPM Coin to Ethereum extends its blockchain payment infrastructure while keeping access limited to institutional clients. The move also places its deposit token alongside tokenized investment products already operating on the network.
For now, the launch does not introduce retail access or confirm direct payment links between JPM Coin and JPMorgan’s tokenized funds. Instead, it gives institutional clients another option for on-chain dollar transfers as the bank expands its use of blockchain-based financial services.
