Litecoin (LTC) is showing increasing weakness, trading below $54 amid growing bearish sentiment. Technical indicators and derivatives data suggest sellers remain in control, with $50 now emerging as the next significant downside target.
Derivatives Data Signals Investor Reluctance
Litecoin futures open interest (OI) has steadily declined to $341.27 million as of Thursday, reflecting waning investor participation. This trend underscores a cautious market where traders are increasingly hesitant to hold long positions.
Additionally, the LTC long-to-short ratio currently reads 0.98, failing to stay above 1 for the third time this month. A ratio below 1 highlights that traders are betting on further price declines, reinforcing the overall bearish outlook.
Technical Indicators Show Weakness
On the daily chart, LTC trades at $53.28, below the 9-day simple moving average (SMA) of $54.14 and the 50-day SMA at $66.99, both sloping downward. This alignment confirms a strong bearish setup.
The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line sits just above zero and slightly above the signal line, but the contracting histogram suggests fading upside momentum. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) at 33 further indicates subdued demand and a neutral-to-bearish market stance.
Resistance is initially seen at the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement level at $54.78, followed by the 50% retracement at $57.78, which could cap any recovery attempts. On the downside, the $50.39 weekly support level is now in focus, acting as the next key target if bearish pressure continues.
Outlook: $50 in Sight
Unless Litecoin manages a daily close above $54.78, the market is likely to stay under pressure. A rebound beyond that resistance could temporarily ease downside risks, opening the path toward $57.78. However, current data points to sellers maintaining the upper hand, keeping $50 within reach as the immediate focus for bears.
Investors and traders should closely monitor these levels, as LTC’s short-term trajectory appears increasingly bearish unless a meaningful recovery occurs.
