- Litecoin MWEB privacy layer has hit a record 150,000 LTC locked, showing rising interest in optional on-chain privacy.
- With growing wallet support and network adoption, Litecoin is becoming a practical and privacy-focused payment option.
Litecoin’s MimbleWimble Extension Block (MWEB) has reached a new record. Over 150,000 LTC, worth around $12 million, is now locked in its privacy layer. This marks the highest level since MWEB launched in May 2022.

What Is MWEB?
MWEB is a feature that gives users more privacy when sending Litecoin. It hides the amount being sent and makes it harder to trace transactions. Unlike other privacy coins like Monero or Zcash, MWEB is optional. That means users can choose whether to make a transaction public or private.
MWEB also helps keep the blockchain light by removing old, unused data. This improves speed and storage.
Why More People Are Using Litecoin Privacy Feature
MWEB is now supported by over 90% of Litecoin miners and nodes. As more coins are locked into it, it becomes harder to link senders and receivers. This makes it more appealing to users who want extra privacy.
Experts say this growth feeds itself. As more users join, privacy improves. As privacy improves, more users join.
Privacy is a must-have for crypto!
Yet, most privacy coins severely lack scalability & programmability
While SOL lacks privacy features! The big question is whether privacy chains will add scalability before SOL adds privacy?
Evidence points towards SOL winning this race! 🔥

Wallet Support Is Growing
More wallets now support MWEB. Cake Wallet added it in October 2024, making private Litecoin transactions possible on mobile. Litecoin Core and Electrum LTC also support it on desktop. You don’t need to run a full node to use these privacy tools.
This makes MWEB useful for everyday users—not just tech experts.
Litecoin Is Evolving
Litecoin was once seen as just a testing ground for Bitcoin features. But now, it’s building its own identity. With low fees, fast transactions, and optional privacy, Litecoin is becoming a strong choice for real-world payments.
And there’s more to come. A new project called LitVM is in development. It aims to bring smart contracts, DeFi, and NFTs to the Litecoin network.
MWEB is showing that privacy and speed can work together. As more people choose private transactions, Litecoin is proving it’s more than just a simple Bitcoin clone. It’s a privacy-focused, practical coin for daily use.
