MoneyGram has expanded its blockchain payments strategy with the launch of MoneyGram Ramps on Solana. The new integration connects Solana wallets, exchanges and developers to MoneyGram’s cash network through one API.

The service supports cash withdrawals in more than 170 countries and territories. Cash deposits are also available in more than 25 countries.

MoneyGram Ramps Connects Solana to Cash

MoneyGram Ramps allows users to move between crypto and physical cash through participating MoneyGram locations. The service currently supports USDC for these transactions.

Developers can access API credentials, a sandbox and software development kits. This means they can add cash access without building separate banking and payment connections.

Solana has also added MoneyGram Ramps to the payments section of its Developer Platform. This gives applications a direct way to connect onchain transactions with MoneyGram’s physical cash network.

Rift became the first Solana wallet to integrate MoneyGram Ramps. The wallet now gives users access to crypto and local currency through the service.

MoneyGram’s network includes nearly 500,000 retail locations. Its broader network covers more than 200 countries and territories, although Ramps currently has a smaller footprint.

U.S. Users Face Some Restrictions

MoneyGram Ramps also brings Solana developers closer to a regulated U.S. payments provider. However, access is not available across every U.S. state.

The current Ramps product excludes Alaska, Louisiana, Hawaii and New York. Availability can also depend on local requirements and the specific service being used.

MoneyGram handles identity checks, compliance and stablecoin settlement through the integration. This allows wallets and exchanges to avoid building these payment connections separately.

MoneyGram Deepens Its Solana Role

The launch follows MoneyGram’s move into the Solana network in June. The company became a Solana validator and joined the Solana Developer Platform.

As a validator, MoneyGram can stake SOL, process transaction blocks and participate in network consensus. The latest Ramps launch expands its role from network infrastructure into customer-facing payments.

MoneyGram is also continuing its work with Stellar. Its MGUSD stablecoin remains natively issued on Stellar, meaning the Solana launch does not indicate that MGUSD has moved to Solana.

The company has not announced additional Solana wallet integrations beyond Rift. It also has not provided a timeline for more partners.

MoneyGram’s Ramps page lists bank, mobile wallet and card withdrawals as coming soon. Debit card and bank account funding are also marked as upcoming features.

If released, these options could expand MoneyGram’s Solana payment services beyond physical cash locations. For now, the main focus remains cash deposits and withdrawals across the markets supported by MoneyGram Ramps.
