- Pi Network has seen a surge in demand for its .pi domains, with users rushing to secure valuable names.
- However, most domains remain unused, as development tools are still pending and speculative buying dominates the auction.
The Pi Network’s .pi domain auction has ignited excitement within its growing community, yet questions loom over whether the platform’s digital identity push will produce meaningful results—or just speculative hype.
Pi Network Community Rushes to Buy .pi Domains
Launched around Pi Day 2025, the .pi domain auction allows Pi Network users, known as “Pioneers,” to bid for unique domain names ending in “.pi.” These domains are meant to be more than collectibles—they’re intended to serve as digital addresses for apps, businesses, and personal projects built within the Pi ecosystem.

The Auction is also now a Pi app instead of being…

A recent update moved the auction from the Pi Wallet into a dedicated app. This shift enabled real-time features like trending domain stats, top bids, and a polished user interface. Email notifications are also on the roadmap, signaling the team’s intent to support long-term engagement.
Domain Squatting Clouds the Vision
Despite increased participation, much of the activity centers on domain squatting. Users are targeting high-value names and brand-like terms, mirroring early Web2 behavior and Ethereum’s ENS market. This speculative trend suggests many buyers aim to resell domains rather than build functional platforms or apps.
The Pi Core Team has responded by reiterating the original purpose of the .pi domains. In a recent statement, they emphasized that these names should be linked to real, usable tools within the network—such as online stores, blogs, or apps—not held as speculative assets.
Real Utility Remains in Development
To guide the ecosystem toward meaningful use, the team plans to introduce builder tools and simplified integration features. These include intuitive interfaces and notifications aimed at helping domain owners turn their addresses into actual working projects.
However, none of these promised tools are live yet. Until they are, most domains risk sitting idle, with their potential unrealized.
Ethereum-style domain auctions are catching fire on Pi Network, but most .pi domains remain undeveloped. The Core Team urges real use, but tools to enable it are still pending.
