  • Pi Network has released Pi Desktop 0.6.4, simplifying SoloHost remote access by removing the need for home router changes.
  • The update also adds stronger app security checks, following Pi Mainnet’s upgrade to Protocol 28 on October 16, 2026.

Pi Network has released Pi Desktop version 0.6.4, introducing easier remote access to SoloHost apps and stronger security checks for applications running on users’ computers. The update removes the need for home router changes, making it simpler for Pioneers to access locally hosted apps through Pi Browser.

The release also adds checks to limit what individual apps can access on a computer. These changes aim to make self-hosting more convenient while improving protection for users running SoloHost applications.

Pi Desktop 0.6.4 Removes Router Configuration Requirements

One of the main changes in Pi Desktop 0.6.4 is a simpler way to connect to SoloHost apps remotely. Previously, users often had to adjust their home router settings to establish a remote connection. The process could also fail on certain networks.

The latest version removes this requirement. Pi Desktop can now establish remote connections without users opening ports on their home networks.

SoloHost allows Pioneers to use their computers as personal servers and access supported applications remotely through the SoloHost app in Pi Browser. These applications can include locally running AI agents and other supported tools.

Removing the router configuration requirement lowers the technical barrier for users who want to access their applications away from their computers. It could also make SoloHost easier to use for Pioneers who are unfamiliar with network settings.

Remote access remains optional. Users who have already configured the feature can switch to the new connection method by selecting “Reconnect” in the remote access interface.

New Security Checks Limit App Access

Pi Desktop 0.6.4 also introduces additional protections for computers running SoloHost applications.

The new checks help verify that each app can access only its own files and network. This is intended to reduce the risk of an application accessing other parts of a user’s computer, the Pi Node, or data belonging to another app.

These checks run at several stages. The system checks an app before installation and each time it starts. Similar checks also take place when an application is first published to the SoloHost catalog.

This approach helps identify applications that fail the required checks before they become available to users or run on their computers.

However, the additional safeguards do not eliminate every possible risk. Pioneers are still advised to assess applications and packages carefully before installing them, as they remain responsible for their installation decisions.

Pi Desktop Update Includes Interface Improvements

Beyond remote access and security, version 0.6.4 includes minor interface changes, including improvements to the Pi Node open-port interface.

Although these changes may appear small, they support the broader goal of making Pi Desktop easier to use. Removing complicated network configuration steps while adding app-level checks could make self-hosted applications more accessible to a wider range of Pioneers.

Users can update to Pi Desktop version 0.6.4 through the official Pi Node download page.

Pi Mainnet Completes Protocol 28 Upgrade

The Pi Desktop release follows another network development: Pi Mainnet’s successful upgrade to Protocol 28 on October 16, 2026.

The upgrade improves how the network handles delays in transaction data. It also makes smart contract maintenance easier for developers working on applications within the Pi ecosystem.

Among the changes is support for upgrading groups of smart contracts at once. Developers can also modify stored data more safely as their applications evolve.

These improvements are relevant to the development of applications on Pi Network, particularly as developers build and maintain services for the ecosystem.

What the Latest Pi Network Updates Mean for Pioneers

Pi Desktop 0.6.4 focuses on two practical improvements: easier remote access and stronger protections for SoloHost applications. Removing the need to change home router settings simplifies the connection process, while additional checks help restrict app access to the resources each application needs.

Meanwhile, the Protocol 28 upgrade provides improvements for transaction data handling and smart contract maintenance on Pi Mainnet.

Together, these developments support Pi Network’s efforts to improve its desktop tools and application infrastructure. However, their broader impact will depend on how developers and Pioneers use the updated features and build applications within the ecosystem.
