Bringing Real-World Assets to Crypto

Ripple has teamed up with Securitize, a top platform for tokenized real-world assets, to make its native stablecoin, RLUSD, more accessible. The partnership introduces a smart contract that allows holders of BUIDL and VBILL tokens to swap their assets for RLUSD. This setup provides a simple and efficient way for these token holders to move into a regulated, crypto-native stablecoin.

Jack McDonald, Ripple’s SVP of stablecoins, said, “Making RLUSD available as an exchange option for tokenized funds is a natural next step as we continue to bridge traditional finance and crypto.” The move highlights Ripple’s focus on real-world asset (RWA) tokenization and stablecoins as key areas for growth.

How the Ripple Smart Contract Works

The smart contract enables BUIDL and VBILL holders to exchange their tokens instantly in a 24-hour market. Currently, BUIDL is held by 55 wallets, while VBILL is limited to four Ethereum addresses. Before this partnership, these tokens had few options for selling or using outside of DeFi collateral and reserves. Now, RLUSD offers a regulated, stable alternative.

Carlos Domingo, CEO of Securitize, added, “Partnering with Ripple to integrate RLUSD into our tokenization infrastructure is a major step forward in automating liquidity for tokenized assets. We are delivering real-time settlement and programmable liquidity for a new class of compliant, on-chain investment products.”

Expanding RLUSD Across Platforms

RLUSD exists on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. The Securitize partnership aims to broaden its reach, increase adoption, and explore additional use cases within the XRPL ecosystem. While Ripple has lagged behind Ethereum and Solana in DeFi development, RWA tokenization presents a new opportunity to grow its ecosystem.

Ripple Market Snapshot

RLUSD currently has a market capitalization of about $700 million, with relatively few daily users. XRP, Ripple’s main asset, recently traded below $3, at $2.86. With initiatives like the Securitize partnership, Ripple is positioning RLUSD for wider institutional use while strengthening its cross-border payment and enterprise blockchain solutions.
