- Ripple ended its SEC battle in 2025 and grew RLUSD into a $1 billion stablecoin.
- XRP peaked early but closed the year near $1.90, leaving its future uncertain.
Ripple’s journey through 2025 was defined by relief, expansion, and lingering uncertainty. After years of legal pressure, the company finally closed its long-running case with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. That outcome removed a major overhang and briefly reignited enthusiasm around XRP. Yet as the year closed, Ripple looked less like a single-token blockchain project and more like a broad financial services firm—raising important questions about XRP’s long-term role.
XRP’s Breakout Rally Followed by Year-End Reality
XRP entered 2025 on a wave of optimism. Political shifts in the United States helped clear the path for a settlement with regulators, and confidence returned quickly. By mid-year, XRP surged past its previous 2018 peak, reaching a new all-time high near $3.65.
However, the excitement faded just as fast. By late December, XRP was trading close to $1.90, down significantly from its highs. Despite maintaining a spot among the top five cryptocurrencies by market value, the price failed to establish a lasting upward trend. Even the launch of multiple U.S.-based XRP exchange-traded funds in November, bringing in over $1 billion in inflows, did not translate into stronger price performance.
RLUSD Emerges as Ripple’s Fastest-Growing Product
While XRP struggled to maintain gains, Ripple’s stablecoin RLUSD quietly became a major success story. Launched late in 2024, RLUSD gained steady adoption throughout 2025 and surpassed a $1 billion market capitalization by November. Ripple has positioned RLUSD as a regulated alternative capable of operating beyond crypto-native markets, with progress made in regions such as Dubai and Singapore.
Regulatory approval remains incomplete in Europe, but Ripple’s newly granted U.S. banking license signals serious long-term intentions for RLUSD’s expansion.
Acquisitions, Wall Street Ambitions, and Tokenization Goals
Ripple also accelerated its transformation through aggressive acquisitions. The company spent over $2 billion acquiring firms like Hidden Road and GTreasury, strengthening its infrastructure for institutional finance. A $500 million funding round valued Ripple at roughly $40 billion, fueling speculation—though not confirmation—about a future IPO.
Looking ahead, Ripple is betting heavily on tokenized real-world assets. Despite partnerships with major players such as BlackRock and Guggenheim, adoption on the XRPL network remains limited, with market share still minimal compared to rivals.
Balancing Growth Without Losing XRP
As Ripple heads into 2026, its challenge is clear. RLUSD, institutional services, and tokenization efforts are advancing, but XRP’s utility appears increasingly narrow. With low network fees and limited DeFi activity, Ripple must find a clearer way to integrate XRP into its evolving ecosystem—or risk leaving its flagship token behind.
