RLUSD Supply Climbs Toward $1.72B as Ripple Mints 10M

Ripple has minted another 10 million RLUSD on the XRP Ledger, pushing the stablecoin’s circulating supply to about 1.71 billion.

The latest issuance took place on Aug. 17, according to public XRP Ledger records. The transaction comes as Ripple continues expanding RLUSD through institutional infrastructure and new distribution channels.

Ripple Issues Another 10 Million RLUSD

Ripple’s issuer account transferred 10 million RLUSD to a designated RLUSD destination account on the XRP Ledger.

The transaction cost just 0.000405 XRP and required two authorized signers before settlement. Public ledger data confirmed the issuance, but Ripple did not identify the recipient or explain how the tokens will be used.

The latest mint follows another 10 million RLUSD issuance on Aug. 10. However, the two transactions do not by themselves prove that institutional demand for RLUSD is increasing.

A stablecoin mint only shows that new tokens were created. The tokens may remain in controlled accounts until they are used for payments, settlement, liquidity or other transactions.

RLUSD Supply Reaches About 1.71 Billion

CoinGecko data placed RLUSD’s circulating supply at around 1.711 billion on Aug. 17. Its market capitalization also stood near $1.71 billion, while 24-hour trading volume was about $50 million at the time of the check.

The latest supply figure is above Ripple’s Aug. 6 disclosure. At that time, Ripple reported about $1.5896 billion in circulating RLUSD and $1.7026 billion in reserve assets.

These figures do not represent the same point in time. Ripple’s reserve disclosures provide a historical snapshot, while blockchain activity can change supply through new mints and burns.

RLUSD supply has also moved lower at points this year following token burns. This means the latest 10 million issuance should be viewed alongside future burns and redemptions.

Minting Does Not Prove New Demand

The 10 million RLUSD issuance does not confirm that $10 million has entered the wider crypto market.

Ripple Mint allows approved institutional customers to mint, redeem, bridge and monitor RLUSD. An institution could therefore receive newly minted tokens and hold them until a later transaction.

Future wallet activity could provide more clues about the purpose of the latest issuance. Transfers to exchanges, payment providers or market makers could indicate how the tokens are being deployed.

Still, blockchain movements would not necessarily reveal the identity of the customer or the commercial reason behind the transaction.

Ripple Expands RLUSD Institutional Access

Ripple launched Ripple Mint in July to make RLUSD easier for approved institutional customers to use. The platform supports automated workflows for minting and redemption through a web interface and APIs.

Ripple has also expanded RLUSD access through partnerships and regional distribution.

In June, RLUSD became available to eligible customers in Japan through SBI VC Trade. Ripple also partnered with BiLira, Bitexen and Bitlo to expand access to institutions in Türkiye.

The company has further invested in infrastructure through its partnership with Notabene. The firms plan to integrate RLUSD with Notabene Flow and explore links with Ripple Payments.

RLUSD Reserves Remain a Key Focus

RLUSD is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company under a limited purpose trust charter from the New York State Department of Financial Services.

Ripple says each RLUSD is redeemable for one U.S. dollar and backed by segregated reserves. These reserves include cash, cash equivalents and short-term U.S. Treasury securities.

Ripple also provides monthly reserve attestations from an independent accounting firm.

The Aug. 6 disclosure showed reserve assets above the reported RLUSD supply at that time. However, it does not confirm the reserve position on Aug. 17, when the latest 10 million tokens were minted.

The next reserve report should provide a clearer view of RLUSD’s supply and backing.

What the Latest RLUSD Mint Means

Ripple’s latest issuance confirms that 10 million new RLUSD were created on the XRP Ledger. It also comes as total circulation approaches 1.71 billion.

However, the transaction alone does not prove stronger institutional demand or new capital entering the market.

The next important signals will be wallet activity, future burns and Ripple’s upcoming reserve disclosure. Together, these data points will show whether the latest issuance represents lasting growth in RLUSD circulation.
