Tether, the company behind the world’s largest stablecoin USDT, is preparing a major funding round that could push its valuation close to $500 billion. The El Salvador-headquartered firm is in talks to raise between $15 billion and $20 billion through a private placement, according to Bloomberg.

Tether $20B Fundraising Plan

Tether plans to sell about 3% of its shares to a select group of investors. CEO Paolo Ardoino confirmed on X that discussions are ongoing with key backers. Final figures may shift depending on investor interest and the size of stakes taken.

With a market capitalization of $173 billion, USDT remains the most widely used stablecoin in the world. This fundraising round highlights Tether’s determination to cement its leadership in the crypto sector while boosting its global presence.

Growing Beyond Stablecoins

Tether is no longer just a stablecoin issuer. Over the years, the company has expanded into several fast-growing industries. Its portfolio now spans artificial intelligence, telecommunications, Bitcoin mining and energy, cloud computing, real estate, and even neurotechnology.

This diversification reflects Tether’s strategy to build long-term infrastructure that supports the digital economy. “We’re building resilient infrastructure, advancing financial sovereignty, and pioneering a future that’s decentralized, resilient, stable, and powered by AI,” said Ardoino.

Why It Matters

If Tether succeeds in raising $20 billion, it could become one of the most valuable companies worldwide. A $500 billion valuation would not only place Tether among corporate giants but also highlight the growing role of stablecoins in global finance.

Stablecoins like USDT have become essential for trading, payments, and cross-border transactions. By expanding into new industries, Tether is also positioning itself as a bridge between traditional finance and blockchain innovation.

As the digital asset sector continues to face regulatory and market challenges, Tether’s ambitious fundraising move shows its confidence in long-term growth and its vision of shaping the future of finance.
