Why Is Ethena (ENA) Up Over 100% While Bitcoin Slides?

Bitcoin Ethereum

Bitcoin has struggled to hold a positive trend since early this year. It looked like the coin was clawing its way back earlier this week, but momentum has since stalled. BTC is now hovering around the $84,000 mark, down 0.71% over the last 24 hours.

It’s not just price that’s cooling off either: trading volume on Bitcoin has dropped nearly 23% in the same period. Ethereum is telling a similar story, down 0.89% on the day with volume off 21.67%. The market’s two largest assets are essentially in a holding pattern.

Ethena’s Price and Volume Explosion

Ethena, on the other hand, has had a standout week. ENA is up roughly 24% in the last 24 hours alone, but the more striking number is the trading volume. The token has surged about 102% at the time of reporting, more than doubling in a single day.

Why Is Ethena (ENA) Up Over 100% While Bitcoin Slides over 20%?

The short answer: rotation. Bitcoin has stalled near $84,000, with the price remaining stagnant over the last 24 hours. Traders have been left without much reason to chase it higher.

Ethena, meanwhile, has a real catalyst. Recently the token was integrated with Binance that adds tokenized equities to USDe’s collateral base and that is pulling capital in fast. ENA’s price is up roughly 24% on the day, and volume has more than doubled (+102%), backed by a 40%+ jump in open interest.

When a market leader like Bitcoin is quiet, capital tends to hunt for the next narrative. Right now Ethena is where it’s landing and due to the binance intergration the coin the progress alone is enough to push the coin up.

Price can move on thin liquidity, but a 100%+ jump in volume means real capital is rotating into the trade, not just a handful of leveraged bets pushing candles around.

ENA Isn’t Alone, But It’s Leading

Zooming out, ENA is part of a broader pocket of altcoin strength while majors stay flat. SUI is up 12% on the day with volume up 73%. UNI has gained close to 4%, with volume up 42%. SOL is only up modestly in price (+1.35%), but volume there is also up nearly 33%. The pattern is consistent: money is flowing into a specific group of altcoins with fresh catalysts, while Bitcoin, Ethereum, and even gold (XAU, down 42.5% in volume) are seeing trading activity dry up.

That’s a classic rotation signal. When the market leader stalls, capital doesn’t necessarily leave crypto — it often looks for the next story, and right now Ethena has one of the more concrete ones on the board. The recent integration with Binance that plugs tokenized equities into USDe’s collateral base, plus rising protocol TVL has favored ENA.

The Risk to consider

The one thing worth flagging for anyone chasing. Ethena has a token unlock scheduled for October 5, with roughly 9% of total supply tied to investor wallets and distribution contracts set to become liquid.

Rallies built on this kind of volume surge can reverse just as fast once that supply hits the market, so the next couple of weeks will say a lot about whether this is the start of a sustained re-rating for ENA or another sharp, short-lived altcoin spike while Bitcoin sits still.
