Why the Crypto Market Is Rallying Today Amid Falling Oil Prices

  • The crypto market surged today, led by Bitcoin rising above $70K as oil prices fell sharply and geopolitical tensions eased.
  • Liquidations in derivatives markets further fueled buying pressure across major cryptocurrencies.

The crypto market saw a strong rally today, with total capitalization rising about 2.7% to $2.38 trillion. Bitcoin led the gains, climbing around 3% and trading above $70,000, while other major cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum, XRP, Solana, BNB, and Hyperliquid, recorded gains between 3% and 11%.

Key Factors Driving the Crypto Market Rally

Several developments fueled the crypto market surge today:

1. Oil Prices Fall Sharply After G7 Reserve Release

A major factor boosting the crypto market was a sudden drop in crude oil prices, which fell nearly 30% in 24 hours, from $119.48 to about $88.30 per barrel.

The decline followed the G7 and International Energy Agency announcement to release 400 million barrels from global reserves. Officials noted that the coordinated move aims to stabilize energy markets amid tensions involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran.

2. Geopolitical Optimism Supports the Crypto Market

Former President Donald Trump contributed to bullish sentiment, stating that the conflict with Iran could end “very soon.”

Although the war may not conclude this week, Trump emphasized that sensitive Iranian infrastructure, including electricity networks, has not yet been targeted. This development eased geopolitical concerns and encouraged investors to increase exposure to the crypto market.

3. Derivatives Liquidations Add Fuel to the Rally

Derivative market activity further supported the crypto market rally. According to CoinGlass, 81,675 traders were liquidated in 24 hours, with total liquidations totaling about $327.15 million.

Bitcoin accounted for roughly $117 million, while Ethereum and crude oil futures also saw significant forced position closures. These liquidations increased buying pressure across cryptocurrencies.

What’s Next for Bitcoin?

Bitcoin recently surpassed a circulating supply of 20,000,003 coins, reflecting its halving system that reduces mining rewards every four years. Current mining rewards are 3.125 BTC per block, and the remaining 1 million bitcoins will take over 100 years to mine.

The coin is approaching the $70,000 resistance level, where price action has previously faced repeated rejections. A successful break above $70,000 with strong trading volume could push Bitcoin toward $74,000 and potentially $79,000 in the near term, further boosting the crypto market.
