- XRP has held its place among the top 15 cryptocurrencies for eight consecutive years, showing strong long-term resilience.
- Despite recent whale sell-offs causing short-term pressure, retail investors continue buying during price dips.
After nearly a decade of navigating market cycles, lawsuits, and volatility, XRP continues to prove its staying power. The digital asset has maintained its position among the top 15 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization for eight consecutive years—an achievement unmatched by most altcoins.

Whales Take Profits, Retail Buys the Dip
Recent data from CryptoQuant highlights how different XRP traders have reacted to recent price movements. October saw a surge in XRP deposits on Binance, with the number of smaller transactions—around 1,000 XRP—hitting their highest levels since June. This indicates that retail investors were actively buying during the dip when prices dropped from nearly $3 to the $2.30–$2.60 range.

In contrast, large holders, or whales, took a different approach. Between October 1 and October 17, Whale-to-Exchange transactions rose sharply, peaking at 43,000 transfers on October 11. This spike signaled profit-taking activity, as these major investors sent significant amounts of XRP to exchanges. Shortly after, the token’s price fell from above $3 to roughly $2.30—showing how whale activity can trigger short-term pressure in volatile markets.
Technical Outlook: Can XRP Defend Key Support?
Currently, XRP trades around $2.38, consolidating after reaching a multi-year high of $3.65 earlier this year. On the weekly chart, the token recently broke down from a rising wedge pattern but bounced off the $2.30 support zone.

Indicators show mixed signals. The Bollinger Bands point to price compression, hinting at an upcoming breakout. The MACD, while slightly bearish, is nearing a bullish crossover, and the Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) remains positive—suggesting continued capital inflows. However, the Balance of Power (BoP) indicates that sellers still hold a slight upper hand in the short term.
If XRP maintains support above $2.30, it could rebound toward resistance levels at $2.76 and $3.54. A sustained move above $3.65 could pave the way for a retest of its all-time high at $3.84. Conversely, failure to defend $2.30 might push prices down toward $1.97.
XRP’s eight-year streak as a top 15 cryptocurrency reflects both resilience and investor confidence. Despite market turbulence and shifting trader behavior, the token remains one of the most enduring assets in the digital economy—continuing to hold firm where many others have faded.
