- XRP Ledger has launched its EVM-compatible sidechain on mainnet, bringing Ethereum dapp capabilities into its ecosystem.
- This move enhances scalability, lowers costs, and paves the way for cross-chain applications and real-world tokenization efforts.
XRP Ledger (XRPL) has taken a bold step toward interoperability by launching its long-awaited Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible sidechain on the mainnet. The new development brings Ethereum-based smart contracts to the XRP ecosystem, allowing seamless deployment of decentralized applications (dapps) that thrive on both XRPL’s low-cost infrastructure and Ethereum’s programmability.
XRP EVM Sidechain Goes Live on Mainnet
In a press release dated June 30, Ripple announced that the EVM sidechain is now operational. Developed in collaboration with Peersyst and the broader XRPL community, the sidechain bridges XRPL with over 80 other blockchains using Axelar’s cross-chain infrastructure. This integration opens new opportunities for developers to port Ethereum-based dapps, including DeFi tools, lending platforms, and tokenization projects.

After years of building with @Peersyst and the XRPL community, devs can now build, port, and deploy cross-chain and EVM-only dApps using XRP as gas, with a direct bridge to the XRPL.

Faster, Cheaper, and More Scalable
The EVM sidechain runs in parallel with the XRPL, combining the best of both networks. It uses XRP as its native gas token and offers faster block times and significantly lower transaction costs compared to Ethereum. According to Ripple CTO David Schwartz, the launch enhances the ecosystem without altering XRPL’s fundamental efficiency and reliability.
Access to Millions and Support from Industry Players
With access to over 6 million XRPL wallet holders, the new sidechain is expected to attract a surge of developers and users. Several partners have already joined the initiative, including Band Protocol for oracles, Grove for public RPC endpoints, and upcoming DeFi applications like Strobe, Securd, and Vertex. Wormhole, a major player in cross-chain messaging, is also preparing to integrate.
A Transformational Shift for XRP
Peersyst CEO Ferran Prat called the launch “Day 1 of a much bigger journey,” emphasizing the vision of a multichain future where XRP is at the core of programmable, scalable solutions. Ripple’s recent real estate tokenization initiative in Dubai further showcases how XRPL aims to lead in real-world asset integration.
XRP is evolving beyond cross-border payments, unlocking Ethereum’s dapp ecosystem while preserving XRPL’s speed and cost-efficiency. With strong institutional partnerships and a rapidly expanding network, this EVM sidechain could redefine XRP’s role in Web3.
