- The XRP Ledger has surpassed 3 billion transactions, highlighting continued network activity and growing use.
- Ripple also released 1 billion XRP from escrow, with most typically re-locked to limit the impact on circulating supply.
The XRP Ledger has crossed a major network milestone after recording more than 3 billion cumulative transactions. The achievement comes as Ripple released 1 billion XRP from escrow on September 1, 2026.
The two developments highlight continued activity on the XRP Ledger and Ripple’s approach to managing XRP supply. While the transaction milestone points to growing network use, the escrow release follows a monthly schedule that Ripple has maintained for years.
XRP Ledger Records 3 Billion Transactions
The XRP Ledger has processed more than 3 billion transactions since its launch. Data tracked by XRPScan shows steady activity across different crypto market cycles.
Daily successful payments have also increased in 2026. The network processed more than 2.7 million payments at peak periods, compared with about 1 million in late 2025.
The growth highlights the XRP Ledger’s focus on payments and settlement. Its design allows transactions to settle quickly and at low cost. This differs from networks such as Ethereum and Solana, which support a wider range of smart contracts, applications and retail activity.
Ripple Releases 1 Billion XRP From Escrow
Ripple released 1 billion XRP from escrow on September 1, following its regular monthly schedule. The release was split across three transactions of 500 million, 400 million and 100 million XRP.
Ripple introduced the escrow system in 2017 to make XRP supply releases more predictable. Under the arrangement, the company can unlock up to 1 billion XRP each month.
After the September release, about 31.28 billion XRP remained locked in escrow, equal to roughly 31.3% of XRP’s 100 billion maximum supply.
However, the full 1 billion XRP is not usually added to the circulating supply. Ripple typically returns a large portion of each monthly release to escrow, reducing the amount that enters circulation.
Most XRP Is Typically Relocked
Ripple has historically returned a large portion of each monthly release to escrow. The company has often re-locked between 60% and 80% of the XRP it unlocks.
As a result, the net increase in circulating XRP is usually much smaller than the headline 1 billion figure. The monthly increase can range from roughly 200 million to 400 million XRP.
This distinction matters when assessing the potential supply impact of an escrow release. An unlock does not automatically mean that Ripple has sold 1 billion XRP on the open market.
XRP Ledger Expands Into Tokenized Assets
Network activity is also growing beyond payments. Tokenized real-world assets on the XRP Ledger reached about $4.05 billion in late August 2026, according to rwa.xyz.
That figure represents a fourfold increase from early 2026. The growth points to rising interest in using the XRP Ledger for asset settlement and other financial applications.
Recent upgrades have also targeted privacy and features aimed at institutional users. Ripple has indicated that additional XRP could be released from escrow to support liquidity for stablecoin and foreign exchange trading pairs if the CLARITY Act becomes law.
What the 3 Billion Transaction Milestone Means for XRP
The XRP Ledger reaching 3 billion transactions does not mean that XRP’s price will rise. Similarly, Ripple’s 1 billion XRP escrow release does not necessarily mean that the market will face major selling pressure.
Instead, the two developments highlight different aspects of the XRP ecosystem. The transaction milestone points to continued network activity and growing use of the ledger for payments and settlement.
The escrow release, meanwhile, shows Ripple’s structured approach to managing XRP supply. Since much of the released XRP is typically returned to escrow, the actual increase in circulating supply is much smaller than the headline figure suggests.
Together, the developments show continued activity on the XRP Ledger alongside a predictable approach to XRP supply management.
