Zcash Foundation reported net liquid assets of about $36.7 million as of March 31 in its latest Q1 update. The foundation also recorded average monthly operating expenses of approximately $272,539, with personnel costs representing the largest share of spending. The figures show steady financial management despite ongoing ecosystem changes and continued protocol development.

Regulatory clarity improves outlook

The quarter was marked by improved regulatory clarity after the SEC closed its investigation into the foundation without taking enforcement action. This development reduced uncertainty for the project and strengthened confidence across the privacy-focused crypto sector. The foundation noted that the outcome reinforced its long-term commitment to financial privacy and decentralized infrastructure.

Network stability holds through ecosystem changes

The report highlighted that the Zcash network remained stable throughout the quarter despite governance shifts and leadership changes within parts of the ecosystem, including the Electric Coin Company. Block production continued without interruption, and user funds remained secure. The foundation emphasized that the protocol is decentralized and not controlled by any single entity, which helped maintain continuity during transitions.

Development advances across core infrastructure

Significant technical progress was made across multiple areas, including Zebra node updates, the Z3 stack, and preparations for Network Upgrade 7 (NU7). Zebra releases included version 4.0.0, which improved observability, and version 4.3.0, which introduced security fixes and early ZIP-235 changes. Development also progressed on FROST v3 for multi-party signing, along with the deployment of new Rust-based DNS seeders in the United States and Europe after the shutdown of ECC-operated seeders.

Community participation remains strong

Community engagement remained active during the quarter through events such as Zcomm 2026, which brought together contributors and ecosystem partners. Governance proposals related to NU7 received strong support, with several initiatives recording approval rates above 90%. This level of agreement reflected alignment within the ecosystem on key technical and governance directions.

ZEC gains after quarterly update

Zcash recorded a 3.4% increase following the Q1 report. The token is currently trading above $580 and has recently moved within a $500 to $600 range. Market activity suggests continued interest in privacy-focused digital assets following the positive quarterly update.

Outlook for upcoming developments

Looking ahead, the foundation plans to prioritize NU7 development, continued Z3 stack improvements, and further Zebra benchmarking. A new board appointment was also announced, expected to strengthen expertise in fintech and impact investing. The focus remains on maintaining network stability while advancing long-term protocol upgrades and privacy-focused innovation.
