Zcash (ZEC) has surged to $979, putting the privacy-focused network back in the spotlight as its mining activity climbs toward record levels.
ZEC has gained sharply in recent weeks, with the latest price jump making Zcash mining far more profitable. As mining returns rise, more computing power is being directed toward the network, pushing its hashrate close to its all-time high.
ZEC Price Jumps 88% in 30 Days
ZEC climbed to an intraday high of $979 at around 3:30 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday, marking a gain of nearly 17% in 24 hours.
The rally has been even stronger over a longer period. ZEC gained 64.7% in two weeks and 88.1% over the past 30 days. Over six months, the price has surged by about 353% against the U.S. dollar.
The sharp price increase has also lifted ZEC mining returns. Higher potential profits are encouraging miners to add more computing power to the Zcash network.
Zcash Hashrate Nears Its Record High
Zcash uses the Equihash proof-of-work algorithm, which requires miners to solve computational puzzles to secure the network.
The network’s hashrate reached about 27.9 GSol/s on August 28 at block height 3,463,689. On September 3, the hashrate remained at around 91% of its all-time high.
The rise shows how quickly mining activity can respond when ZEC becomes more profitable.
Higher ZEC prices increase the potential value of mining rewards. That can make previously less attractive mining equipment more appealing to operators.
Z15 Pro Leads Zcash Mining Profitability
Bitmain’s Antminer Z15 Pro currently stands out among Zcash mining machines. The ASIC delivers around 840 KSol/s, twice the output of the original Z15 at about 420 KSol/s.
Based on ZEC prices at the time, the Z15 Pro was estimated to generate about $59.09 per day. The original Z15 produced around $29.25 per day. The Antminer Z15K, which delivers about 525 KSol/s, was estimated to generate roughly $35.14 per day.
However, these figures can change quickly. Mining profitability depends on factors such as ZEC’s price, network difficulty and electricity costs.
The Z15 Pro also appears difficult to obtain directly from Bitmain, with the machine sold out at the time of the report. Resellers were offering units above the $4,999 list price.
ZEC Mining Profits Could Change Quickly
ZEC’s price surge is having a clear impact on Zcash mining activity. Higher mining returns are attracting more computing power, pushing the network’s hashrate closer to its record high.
However, the trend could change quickly if ZEC loses value. A sharp price decline would reduce mining profits and could force some miners to leave the network.
For now, Zcash is benefiting from strong price gains and rising mining activity. The focus now shifts to whether ZEC can maintain its elevated price and keep mining returns attractive.
