Aave Activates LlamaRisk’s Automated Risk Agents for Pendle on Plasma

Aave has activated LlamaRisk’s automated risk agents for PT-sUSDe-22OCT2026 on its V3 Plasma market, giving the agents limited control over the token’s collateral valuation and borrowing parameters.

The move follows approval of Aave governance Proposal 524, which received about 371,000 AAVE in voting power in favor and no votes against. LlamaRisk said its LlamaGuard PT Risk Oracle is now live on the market.

The activation is designed to make risk adjustments more responsive to changes in Pendle market data while keeping the existing pricing model in place.

Aave Gives LlamaRisk Limited Control Over PT-sUSDe Parameters

The newly activated system uses two predeployed agent contracts to update specific risk parameters for PT-sUSDe-22OCT2026.

LlamaRisk previously managed these parameters manually through Aave’s Risk Stewards. The automated agents are intended to make smaller adjustments based on market conditions without requiring a separate governance process for every update.

The agents receive data from Pendle markets through Chainlink’s Runtime Environment. However, their authority remains restricted by preset limits.

Aave’s reserve page showed about $36.72 million worth of the asset supplied as of October 5. PT-sUSDe-22OCT2026 can be used as collateral only within Aave’s E-Mode, which provides higher borrowing power for assets within related categories.

How Much Can the Risk Agents Change?

The two agents have separate roles and strict limits on how much they can change. The discount-rate agent can adjust the annual discount rate used to value the Pendle principal token by up to 100 basis points per update. Each adjustment must be at least two days apart.

The E-Mode agent can modify loan-to-value ratios, liquidation thresholds and liquidation bonuses in categories 25 and 26, which cover PT-sUSDe Stablecoins and PT-sUSDe $USDe.

Each parameter can change by no more than 50 basis points at a time, with at least three days between updates for each category. These limits allow the agents to respond to market changes without making sudden or significant changes to Aave’s risk settings.

Why the Discount Rate Matters for Borrowers

The discount rate plays an important role in determining how much the PT can be valued as collateral.

A higher discount rate results in a lower collateral valuation for borrowers. That can reduce the health factor of an account using the PT as collateral and bring it closer to liquidation.

The liquidation threshold also affects how much debt a position can carry before becoming eligible for liquidation.

Meanwhile, the liquidation bonus determines the additional collateral that a liquidator can receive when repaying an eligible position.

Because the agents can only make limited changes to these parameters, their role is focused on gradual risk management rather than broad changes to Aave’s lending framework.

Aave Governance Still Controls the System

Despite giving the agents limited authority, Aave governance retains control over the wider system.

Governance can manage agent registration and administrator changes. The Protocol Guardian can also disable either agent without waiting for another governance vote.

Reactivating a disabled agent requires another governance vote, according to LlamaRisk’s deployment documentation.

This creates a separation between automated risk adjustments and the broader governance process. The agents can make predefined changes within their limits, while larger structural decisions remain under Aave’s governance framework.

PT-sUSDe Is Designed to Mature on October 22

PT-sUSDe-22OCT2026 is a Pendle principal token that matures on October 22, 2026.

At maturity, the PT is designed to redeem for an amount of sUSDe worth one USDe. Its pricing model also reduces the discount as maturity approaches.

That maturity date is important for the new risk system because LlamaRisk’s monitoring dashboard indicates that the oracle will retire when the token reaches maturity.

The activation therefore applies to a specific asset with a defined maturity rather than creating a permanent automated risk framework for all Pendle assets on Aave.

What the Aave Integration Means for DeFi Risk Management

The move highlights a broader shift toward automated risk management in decentralized finance.

Rather than relying entirely on manual parameter updates, protocols can use automated systems to respond to changes in market conditions within predefined boundaries.

For Aave, the LlamaRisk agents provide a way to adjust selected PT-sUSDe risk parameters while leaving the underlying linear discount-pricing model unchanged.

The activation does not reset the existing reserve parameters. Instead, it gives the approved agents permission to make specific adjustments within the limits set by governance.

As PT-sUSDe approaches its October 22 maturity, the focus will remain on how these automated adjustments interact with the token’s declining discount and changing market conditions.
