Bitcoin Price Today: BTC Drops to $68,000 as $60K Support Comes Under Pressure

  • Bitcoin trades near $68,000 as an orderly deleveraging phase keeps bearish pressure in place without widespread panic.
  • Network strength and selective institutional buying persist, but failure to hold key support could push the price toward $60,000.

Bitcoin enters the third week of February 2026 under sustained bearish pressure, with traders closely watching whether the current price zone marks stability or deeper weakness. After peaking at a record $126,080 in October 2025, BTC has now lost nearly half its value in just four months. At the time of writing, Bitcoin trades near $68,450, reflecting a cautious market mood rather than outright panic.

Market Sentiment: A Calm Sell-Off, Not a Crash

Unlike previous sharp downturns, analysts describe the current phase as an “orderly deleveraging.” Selling pressure remains steady, but emotional panic appears largely absent. Trading volumes have held firm between $38 billion and $40 billion, suggesting active participation from both buyers and sellers who are managing risk carefully.

Spot Bitcoin ETFs have recorded net outflows of about $641 million over the past ten days. However, not all institutional players are retreating. Some funds, including BlackRock’s IBIT, continue to see selective inflows as long-term investors treat the decline as a strategic entry point rather than a warning sign.

Network Strength Holds Firm Despite Price Weakness

While price action remains under pressure, Bitcoin’s underlying network shows notable resilience. The global hashrate, which dipped nearly 20% earlier this year due to harsh winter conditions and reduced mining profitability, has rebounded to between 1.0 and 1.2 ZH/s. This recovery indicates that efficient miners can still operate sustainably around current price levels.

The recent 11% mining difficulty adjustment, the largest since the 2021 China mining ban, has further eased pressure on remaining miners. This reset helps stabilize the ecosystem and reduces the risk of widespread miner capitulation in the short term.

Institutional interest also remains visible. Trump Media & Technology Group’s recent SEC filing for a Truth Social Bitcoin and Ether ETF highlights continued political and corporate engagement with digital assets, regardless of short-term volatility.

Technical Outlook: Descending Channel Still in Control

From a technical standpoint, Bitcoin remains locked in a descending channel that has defined price behavior since late 2025. The $67,172 level represents key near-term support. A breakdown below this zone could expose BTC to a retest of the psychologically important $60,000 mark.

On the upside, $71,600 stands as critical resistance. A sustained close above this level would challenge the prevailing bearish structure. The bearish crossover between the 50-day and 200-day exponential moving averages continues to signal downside pressure in the medium term.

Weekly Outlook: Cautious and Defensive

For the week ahead, Bitcoin’s bias remains between bearish and neutral. Price stability depends heavily on whether support levels can hold amid ongoing deleveraging. Traders are watching the upcoming mining difficulty data closely, as shifts in miner behavior could offer early clues about whether a longer-term base is forming.
