- Cardano holder loses over $6 million swapping 14.4 million ADA into the low-liquidity USDA stablecoin.
- The incident highlights the risks of trading obscure or illiquid crypto assets.
A five-year Cardano (ADA) investor recently suffered a massive financial setback, losing over $6 million in a stablecoin swap mishap. The incident, flagged by blockchain investigator ZachXBT, underscores the risks involved in trading low-liquidity crypto assets, even for long-term holders.
The Swap That Went Wrong
Cardano holder attempted to exchange 14.4 million ADA—worth approximately $6.9 million—into USDA, a Cardano-supported stablecoin pegged to the US Dollar. Due to the USDA pool’s extremely low liquidity and modest market capitalization of just $10.6 million, the trade triggered a drastic price spike, resulting in a net loss of about $6.05 million.
Analysis shows that this wallet, identified as “addr…4×534,” had remained dormant since September 13, 2020. Curiously, the user executed a small test transaction of 4,437 ADA for a stablecoin just a minute before the massive swap at 4:06 pm UTC. This step seems to have been a precaution, but it did little to prevent the substantial loss.
Low Liquidity, High Risk
The USDA stablecoin’s low market capitalization meant that the trading pool could not support large swaps without severe volatility. Experts have warned that transactions involving illiquid assets can have dramatic, unintended consequences. Blockchain observers noted that this was the wallet’s first interaction with USDA, highlighting the dangers of unfamiliar tokens.
Market Implications
This “fat-finger” type of transaction has echoes in previous crypto incidents, such as last month’s accidental printing of 300 trillion PYUSD tokens by Paxos, which were later burned. Such events illustrate how errors—particularly involving illiquid or obscure assets—can significantly impact both investors and the broader market.
Meanwhile, ADA itself has been under pressure. At Press time, ADA traded at $0.4936, down 2.08% over 24 hours, with a market capitalization of $17.71 billion and a 24-hour trading volume of $1.56 billion.

Whales have recently sold around 440 million ADA, signaling active market movements amid ongoing volatility.

Lessons for Crypto Traders
The incident serves as a cautionary tale for investors venturing into less-known stablecoins or trading pools. Even dormant accounts can incur huge losses when interacting with illiquid tokens, making thorough research and risk assessment essential before committing significant funds.
