- Ethereum launches a privacy cluster to improve blockchain security and protect user data.
- Upcoming projects like Kohaku will make private transactions safer and easier.
The Ethereum Foundation has created a dedicated privacy cluster to strengthen blockchain security and protect users’ data. The team includes 47 researchers, engineers, cryptographers, and coordinators. It will be led by Igor Barinov, founder of Blockscout and the Gnosis Chain Layer-2 blockchain.
This cluster will not work alone. It will collaborate with other Foundation teams, such as the Institutional Privacy Task Force (IPTF), to ensure Ethereum projects comply with privacy regulations worldwide.

New Privacy-Focused Projects
The launch comes alongside several privacy-driven Ethereum projects. One key initiative is Kohaku, a browser wallet and software development kit (SDK) designed for private transactions. Kohaku will debut at EFDevcon in late November and aims to allow wallets to securely process private transactions without relying heavily on third parties.
Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has also spoken out on privacy issues. He recently criticized proposed EU legislation that could scan private messages, including encrypted content. This shows Ethereum’s strong commitment to protecting users’ privacy.
Privacy Coins Gain Attention
Interest in privacy-focused cryptocurrencies is rising. For example, Zcash recently hit a three-year high, doubling its value in less than two weeks. Experts believe endorsements from well-known figures like venture capitalist Naval Ravikant helped boost attention to privacy coins.
With the privacy cluster, Ethereum aims to remain a leader in secure blockchain transactions and appeal to users who value privacy.
Community Response and Next Steps
Privacy advocates have welcomed Ethereum’s move. Harry Halpin, founder of the privacy-first framework Nym, praised the Foundation for taking Vitalik Buterin’s privacy vision seriously. He also highlighted risks in popular wallets like MetaMask, which can expose user IP addresses unless additional tools like Tor or VPNs are used.
Experts recommend Ethereum study technical implementations like Zcash and work with privacy specialists to further enhance its security measures.
The privacy cluster represents a major step for Ethereum. With new projects like Kohaku and close collaboration with privacy experts, Ethereum is positioning itself as a leader in secure, private, and compliant blockchain solutions.
