  • Ethereum ICO participant moves 150,000 ETH, worth $646 million, to a staking address after three years of inactivity.
  • The transfer signals renewed interest from early investors amid growing bullish sentiment.

Dormant ICO Participant Returns

An Ethereum ICO participant has stirred the crypto market by moving a massive 150,000 ETH, worth approximately $646 million, to a staking address on Thursday. On-chain data shows that these funds came from three addresses that had been inactive since February 2022. Prior to this move, the addresses’ activity had been unrelated to ether transactions, making this sudden transfer particularly notable.

Resurfacing Amid Bullish Sentiment

This event is part of a broader trend of Ethereum ICO whales resurfacing in recent months. Several ICO participants have moved significant amounts of ETH, reflecting growing confidence in Ethereum’s market outlook. In August, one participant transferred roughly $19 million in ETH to Kraken, followed by an additional 1,060 ETH offloaded in subsequent days. Another ICO-related address moved 2,300 ETH to the exchange last month.

These moves suggest that early investors are increasingly positioning themselves to benefit from Ethereum’s staking opportunities, which offer a chance to earn rewards by participating in network validation. Analysts interpret these actions as signals of potential bullish sentiment surrounding ETH, even as the broader market shows mixed performance.

Ethereum ICO Background

Ethereum’s ICO, held between July 22 and September 2, 2014, raised approximately $18.3 million by selling over 60 million ETH tokens at an average price of $0.31 per ETH. Despite whale activity, Ethereum fell 1% to $4,331, while Bitcoin rose 0.7% to $111,519, showing fluid market trends.

Market Snapshot

However, despite the whale activity, Ethereum’s price saw a slight decline of 1% over the past 24 hours, trading at $4,331 as of early Friday ET. In contrast, Bitcoin climbed 0.7% to $111,519, clearly demonstrating that crypto market dynamics remain fluid, with large holders and institutional participants influencing trends in subtle but significant ways.

The return of dormant Ethereum ICO whales highlights both the longevity and influence of early investors in the crypto space. As Ethereum staking continues to attract attention, the market may witness further movement from these long-standing holders, potentially shaping price trends in the coming months.
