- Hyperliquid (HYPE) surged 18% as the wider crypto market lost $1.49 billion to liquidations.
- ICE’s partnership with trade(xyz), Druckenmiller’s investment and Musk’s reaction fueled the rally, but US regulatory approval remains pending.
The cryptocurrency market faced heavy selling pressure as traders lost $1.49 billion to liquidations in 24 hours. However, Hyperliquid (HYPE) moved in the opposite direction, gaining more than 18% while major cryptocurrencies struggled.
The rally came as several developments boosted interest in the Hyperliquid ecosystem. An agreement involving Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), an investment from billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller and a brief comment from Elon Musk helped put HYPE in the spotlight.
Why Is Hyperliquid Rising While Other Cryptocurrencies Fall?
The wider crypto market came under pressure following concerns about a suspected Binance hot wallet security breach. The exchange temporarily paused withdrawals while investigating transfers involving more than $6.2 billion in affected funds.
Tether and Circle froze stablecoins linked to the transfers, while Binance said it would cover any user losses. The uncertainty triggered heavy selling, with liquidations exceeding $600 million in just one hour. Most of those liquidations involved leveraged long positions as Bitcoin prices dropped.
Hyperliquid, however, benefited from a different development. Instead of following the broader market decline, HYPE attracted buying interest after ICE announced a definitive agreement with trade(xyz).
The agreement will bring perpetual futures markets based on Hyperliquid to the United States. Perpetual futures are derivative contracts that allow traders to speculate on asset prices without an expiration date.
The announcement is significant because ICE owns the New York Stock Exchange. Its involvement signals growing interest from traditional financial institutions in blockchain-based trading infrastructure.
Druckenmiller and Musk Add Attention to the Hyperliquid Rally
The ICE announcement received further attention after Stanley Druckenmiller confirmed his investment in trade(xyz).
I am excited to be an investor in trade(xyz) as they partner with ICE to bring 24/7 perpetual futures on Hyperliquid to the United States. As a market participant, I am looking forward to to using their innovative product to enhance my investment process.
— Stan Druckenmiller (@standuquesne) October 29, 2026
The billionaire investor, who runs Duquesne Family Office, expressed support for the company’s partnership with ICE and its plans to introduce 24/7 perpetual futures trading in the United States.
His involvement added credibility to the announcement and strengthened market interest in the potential expansion of Hyperliquid-based trading.
Elon Musk also brought attention to the development. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO responded to Druckenmiller’s post with a one-word comment: “Interesting.”
Although Musk did not provide further details or directly endorse HYPE, his response helped draw more attention to the partnership.
These developments came as short sellers faced significant losses. According to liquidation data, HYPE recorded approximately $30.86 million in liquidations, with short positions accounting for most of the total. This suggests that traders betting against the token were caught off guard by its rapid price increase.
Can HYPE Maintain Its Gains?
Despite the strong rally, Hyperliquid faces a challenge that could determine whether its recent gains last.
A similar development occurred in September when Kraken’s parent company, Payward, announced plans involving Hyperliquid futures in the United States. HYPE reached new highs shortly after the announcement but eventually lost ground over the following weeks.
The latest ICE agreement could generate a similar reaction if expectations move ahead of actual progress.
US regulatory approval remains pending, and no official launch date has been announced. Both developments will be important in determining whether the planned perpetual futures markets become operational.
For now, HYPE’s rally reflects growing interest in the potential connection between traditional financial markets and decentralized trading platforms.
ICE’s involvement gives Hyperliquid a significant opportunity to expand its reach. However, the token’s ability to hold its gains will depend on whether the partnership progresses beyond the announcement stage.
