  • IOTA powers Orobo’s Digital Product Passports for EV batteries, enabling secure and transparent lifecycle tracking.
  • The system ensures EU compliance, protects sensitive data, and supports scalable audits across industries.

Bringing Transparency and Compliance to Supply Chains

IOTA is making significant strides in real-world utility as Orobo launches Digital Product Passports (DPPs) for electric-vehicle (EV) batteries. By leveraging IOTA’s distributed ledger technology (DLT), the platform ensures transparent, compliant, and end-to-end tracking of products across the supply chain. This integration allows manufacturers, regulators, and other stakeholders to access verifiable product data securely.

Orobo’s DPP system is designed to meet the European Union’s Ecodesign requirements, which will become mandatory starting in 2026. The passports cover crucial lifecycle information, including production, transportation, repair history, and recycling details. By anchoring this data on IOTA’s ledger, the platform ensures immutability and reduces the risk of fraud, offering a reliable framework for regulatory compliance.

IOTA Technology Enables Digital Twins and Privacy Protection

Orobo’s infrastructure uses IOTA’s DLT to create digital twins for each product. Each twin stores verifiable lifecycle data and hashes sensitive business information to protect it. Companies can conduct audits and regulatory reviews without exposing confidential details. This makes the system valuable for industries with strict privacy requirements.

To expand participation, Orobo has integrated the IOTA Gas Station mechanism. This removes barriers for users, enabling seamless interaction with the system. Additionally, the platform is engineered for scalability through custom Move-based smart contracts, allowing DPP data recording across multiple industries, including textiles and construction in the future.

Driving Real-World DPP Adoption Across Industries

IOTA has been at the forefront of supporting companies in implementing Digital Product Passports that comply with EU regulations. Its network can process up to 50,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality, making it suitable for enterprise-level operations. Recent demonstrations of IOTA’s DPP framework highlight the practical application of the IOTA Trust Framework and its potential for broader adoption.

Sann Carrière, founder of Orobo, emphasized the choice of IOTA, stating:

“We chose IOTA because of its focus on real-world applications and a shared vision for digital ecosystems that serve both people and the planet.” This collaboration shows blockchain expanding beyond finance to boost sustainability, transparency, and accountability across supply chains.
