- Pi Network updates its KYC system for global access and privacy.
- The tech will also be offered as a service with added security.
Although Pi Network has been active for over five years and launched its Open Network more than a year ago, it continues to spark debate over its Know Your Customer (KYC) process. Recently, co-founder Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis shared key updates that may clarify the path forward for Pioneers and the broader blockchain community.
A KYC System Built for Global Access
Dr. Kokkalis emphasized that Pi Network’s KYC solution was developed in-house, reflecting years of collaboration within the community. Designed to be scalable and globally accessible, the system allows Pioneers from all regions to interact securely while maintaining privacy.
Beyond standard identity verification, Pi’s KYC platform incorporates sanction screenings and compliance checks in a single streamlined process. According to Kokkalis, this approach is foundational to maintaining the integrity and authenticity of the network. Importantly, he highlighted that users are not expected to pay for verification, ensuring that accessibility remains open to all participants.
“From Pi Network’s perspective, it is foundational to the integrity and authenticity of the network,” Kokkalis said, underscoring why the team invested heavily in building a robust system rather than outsourcing the process.
Pi’s KYC as a Service
Looking ahead, the co-founder revealed that Pi Network intends to expand its KYC solution beyond internal use. The platform aims to offer its verification technology as a service for other Web3 projects and traditional businesses. Crucially, this would include the technology and product itself, not user data. Allowing external entities to benefit from Pi’s hybrid AI-human verification model.
The system’s next phase also includes additional safety measures, such as fingerprint verification, to further protect user information. Kokkalis believes these enhancements will make it easier to onboard non-Pi users, creating a more inclusive ecosystem.
Community Response and Challenges
Reactions from the Pi community on X remain mixed. Some users see Pi’s KYC-as-a-service initiative as a step toward real-world utility, potentially expanding the network’s influence. Others remain skeptical, highlighting ongoing frustrations from Pioneers who have mined Pi for years yet face delays in claiming their coins.
Despite the debate, Pi Network’s commitment to building a comprehensive, secure, and globally accessible KYC solution signals its ambition to become more than just a cryptocurrency project. By integrating compliance, scalability, and privacy, Pi is setting the stage for a KYC system that could influence both blockchain and traditional finance.
