Pi Network Price Drops 2.21% Ahead of Protocol 28 Upgrade

Pi Network (PI) fell 2.21% to $0.0804 on Tuesday as selling pressure continued ahead of the Protocol 28 Mainnet upgrade scheduled for October 16, 2026. Despite the upcoming technical update and plans to explore a stablecoin integration, PI remains under pressure as bearish technical indicators weigh on its price.

Trading volume jumped 119% to $6.5 million, suggesting stronger selling activity. The decline also left PI trading below its key moving averages, signaling that bearish momentum remains dominant.

Pi Network Price Faces Resistance as Selling Pressure Grows

Pi Network is trading below its 50-day moving average of $0.0885 and its 200-day moving average of $0.1236. These levels highlight the PI’s prolonged weakness and the challenges facing a potential recovery.

The recent decline occurred alongside increased trading volume, indicating that sellers remain active. Attempts to push the price higher have faced resistance, limiting the chances of a sustained rebound.

For PI to show signs of a trend reversal, the price needs to break above the $0.0866 to $0.0886 resistance zone. A move above this range could improve market sentiment and open the door to further gains.

PI Price Risks Falling Toward $0.0704

The $0.0774 level is the immediate support to watch, as it marks last week’s low. A break below this level could expose PI to further losses toward its yearly low near $0.0704.

On the upside, reclaiming $0.0866 would be an important step toward a recovery. Until the token breaks above resistance, the prevailing technical outlook remains bearish.

The current price action suggests that selling pressure is outweighing optimism surrounding Pi Network’s planned infrastructure improvements. Traders will likely monitor the $0.0774 support level for signs of either stabilization or another downward move.

Pi Network Prepares for Protocol 28 Mainnet Upgrade

The Pi Core Team has set October 13, 2026, as the deadline for node operators to upgrade their software ahead of the Protocol 28 Mainnet activation on October 16.

The upgrade aims to improve how the network handles delayed transaction data and support safer batch upgrades for smart contracts. These changes are intended to strengthen the network’s infrastructure and support its developer ecosystem.

Although the upgrade represents progress for Pi Network, it does not directly change the supply of PI tokens or guarantee increased demand. Its longer-term effect on the token’s price will depend partly on whether the improvements encourage greater network activity and adoption.

Pi Network Explores Open USD Stablecoin Integration

Pi Network recently announced that it is exploring a partnership with Open Standard to integrate the Open USD (OUSD) stablecoin into its ecosystem.

The proposed integration could support Pioneer rewards and broader ecosystem payments. OUSD would complement the native PI token rather than replace it, potentially giving users another option for transactions that require price stability.

However, a launch date and specific integration details have not been confirmed. The potential benefits will depend on how the integration is implemented and whether it generates additional activity across the Pi ecosystem.

A key question is whether stablecoin payments will increase demand for PI or reduce the token’s role in certain transactions. Greater ecosystem utility could support the project, but the effect on PI’s market price remains uncertain.

Pi Network Price Outlook Remains Bearish

Pi Network faces a critical period as the Protocol 28 upgrade approaches. While the technical update and proposed OUSD integration could support long-term ecosystem development, neither has yet provided a clear catalyst for a price recovery.

In the short term, traders are likely to focus on the $0.0774 support level and the $0.0866 to $0.0886 resistance zone. A break below support could extend losses toward $0.0704, while a sustained move above resistance could signal a potential recovery.

For now, PI’s price direction remains closely tied to selling pressure and its ability to reclaim key technical levels.
