- Ripple is expanding into traditional finance.
- XRP’s role and real utility continue to decline despite the company’s growth.
Ripple’s expansion into traditional finance is accelerating, but questions about XRP’s real-world use and long-term value continue to intensify.
Ripple’s Growth Outpaces XRP Utility
Ripple’s recent acquisitions of Hidden Road and GTreasury mark its bold move into corporate and institutional finance. These deals signal Ripple’s intention to transform global financial infrastructure far beyond cryptocurrency markets.
However, this rapid growth has sparked renewed scrutiny over XRP’s actual utility. Many of the newly integrated services rely on traditional financial tools rather than blockchain solutions, leaving XRP with minimal involvement. Analysts now question whether Ripple’s success in traditional sectors truly supports the token’s value or leaves it behind.
Financial Dependence Raises Questions
Despite its progress, Ripple still relies heavily on XRP-linked financing. The company periodically sells XRP from its escrow system to fund operations—a strategy that clashes with its long-standing narrative of XRP as a bridge currency for global payments.
A prime example of this growing disconnect is Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin, which reached a market cap of nearly $789 million in early October. Yet, nearly 88% of RLUSD’s supply exists on Ethereum, not the XRP Ledger. Since most RLUSD activity happens outside XRPL, it offers little to no boost to XRP demand or token burns, undermining earlier expectations from holders.
The frst question to even ask is:
How does the XRP token become more valuable from any of this?
The circled part is the focus of what Ripple Prime is being used for: “Enhancing the utility and reach of Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD.”

XRP Buyback Fuels Debate
Ripple’s latest move—to raise $1 billion in XRP to build a digital asset treasury—has added fuel to the debate. Supporters see this as a vote of confidence in XRP’s long-term potential and a step toward market stability.
Critics, however, warn that such large-scale interventions blur the line between financial strategy and price manipulation. They argue that Ripple’s success may still depend more on XRP speculation than genuine adoption.
As Ripple’s ecosystem evolves, the token that once promised to power cross-border payments now faces a pivotal moment. While Ripple grows stronger in the financial sector, XRP’s relevance appears to be fading, leaving investors and analysts to question whether the token can ever catch up.
