Solana Continues to Lead in On-Chain Activity
Solana continued to demonstrate strong on-chain usage throughout 2025, with new data showing the network maintained a substantial lead over other major blockchains in monthly active addresses. Despite retreating from record highs seen in late 2024, Solana’s activity levels remained far ahead of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and most competing networks.
According to data published by BestWallet, Solana ended 2025 with approximately 68.1 million monthly active addresses, underscoring the network’s ongoing relevance even during a cooling market phase.

Solana Activity Nearly Matches All Major Blockchains Combined
Although Solana’s network activity declined from its all-time peak of over 176 million active addresses, usage remained exceptionally high compared with other blockchains.
By the end of the year:
- Bitcoin recorded roughly 12.5 million monthly active addresses
- Ethereum followed with about 7.9 million
- BNB Chain reached approximately 28.6 million
- TRON recorded around 15.8 million
The gap was even more pronounced when compared to networks such as XRP and Dogecoin, each posting under one million active addresses. Notably, Solana alone accounted for only about 3% fewer active addresses than all other major blockchains combined, highlighting the scale of its on-chain usage.

Network Activity Slowed, but Relative Strength Remained
While Solana maintained its lead, overall activity declined on a year-over-year basis. Monthly active addresses on the network fell by roughly 56% compared to December 2024, reflecting broader market normalization following an exceptionally active period.
Other blockchains also experienced significant drops. XRP and Dogecoin saw declines of more than 45%, while TON recorded an even steeper contraction. In contrast, some networks moved in the opposite direction. Bitcoin’s active addresses increased by around 18% year-over-year, while Ethereum posted modest growth.
Among major networks, BNB Chain recorded the strongest annual expansion, with active addresses rising more than 160% compared to the previous year.
Why This Matters
Monthly active addresses are increasingly viewed as a key indicator of blockchain usage, reflecting how often networks are being used for transactions, applications, and transfers. While high activity does not always translate directly into price performance, it offers insight into ecosystem engagement and developer adoption.
At the same time, elevated activity can include automated transactions and low-value transfers, meaning the metric should be interpreted alongside other indicators such as transaction value and application growth. Still, Solana’s ability to maintain a dominant share of network activity suggests continued demand for its infrastructure as the broader crypto market matures.
As investors and developers increasingly focus on real usage rather than speculation alone, on-chain activity metrics are likely to play a growing role in evaluating blockchain ecosystems heading into 2026.
