Story Protocol has launched of its intellectual property (IP)-focused blockchain and the debut of its $IP token. Positioned as the “world’s intellectual property network,” the platform offers users the ability to register, track, and monetize IP assets. This breakthrough provides transparency in how intellectual property is used, especially in data training for artificial intelligence (AI) models.
The mainnet, aptly named Homer, went live on February 13, 2025. In a statement, Story Protocol emphasized,
“Story is creating a new standard for IP, making the $61 trillion asset class programmable so IP is tracked, protected, and monetized, allowing everyone to see the upside.”
Massive Investor Backing and Strategic Vision
Developed by PIP Labs, Story Protocol has attracted significant attention from investors. PIP Labs secured $80 million in a Series B funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), bringing the project’s total funding to $140 million. The funding aims to position Story at the intersection of blockchain and AI, allowing creators to protect their work from unauthorized data use.
“Without great original IP, the AI models don’t develop,” said SY Lee, co-founder and CEO of PIP Labs. He highlighted concerns over AI systems using personal data without consent, emphasizing the importance of Story’s solution.

$IP Token Launch and Market Performance
The launch of the Story mainnet coincided with the release of the $IP token, with 25% of the initial 1 billion tokens unlocked. Of this, 58.4% is allocated to the ecosystem, community foundation, and early incentives.
Since its launch, the $IP token has seen remarkable market performance. As of today, Story (IP) trades at $7.03, reflecting a 39.06% gain in the past 24 hours. The token boasts a 24-hour trading volume of $2.45 billion and holds the #56 spot on CoinMarketCap, with a live market cap of approximately $1.64 billion. Over the past week, $IP has surged by an impressive 179.45%, making it the best-performing asset in the top 100 cryptocurrencies.
