- Aave (AAVE) fell after traders took profits following a strong DeFi-driven rally fueled by improving market sentiment.
- A large Coinbase sell-off and weaker crypto market conditions also added short-term selling pressure.
Aave (AAVE) pulled back after a strong rally as traders locked in profits over the past 24 hours. The correction followed a DeFi-led market rebound that lifted AAVE among the sector’s top performers before selling pressure emerged near a key resistance level.
While the pullback may seem sharp, there is no sign of a protocol issue or governance problem. Instead, the latest move appears to reflect normal market behavior after a rapid price increase.
AAVE Surged as DeFi Tokens Led the Market Recovery
AAVE rallied strongly after improving macroeconomic sentiment encouraged investors to return to risk assets. Reports of easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East helped lift cryptocurrencies, while falling oil prices further supported the recovery.
During the rally, capital rotated into major DeFi projects, making AAVE one of the sector’s top performers alongside Lido (LDO) and Ondo (ONDO).
The bullish sentiment was also supported by Bitcoin reclaiming key price levels and Ethereum posting solid gains, creating favorable conditions for large DeFi tokens.
Beyond the broader market, Aave benefited from growing confidence in its ecosystem. Investors pointed to the protocol’s record total value locked (TVL), strong fee generation, and ongoing development of Aave V4. The planned improvements, including a unified liquidity layer, multichain support for the GHO stablecoin, and real-world asset lending, strengthened the long-term outlook.
At the same time, derivatives activity increased sharply as futures volume and open interest climbed, showing that more traders were betting on further gains.
Profit Taking Emerged Near Key Resistance
After rising quickly, AAVE struggled to maintain momentum near the $100 price level.
Several market analysts identified this area as a major resistance zone where sellers began taking profits. Although AAVE briefly moved above the level, the breakout failed to attract enough buying pressure to continue the rally.
This type of pullback is common after a rapid price increase. Early buyers often secure profits, while short-term traders open bearish positions once prices become stretched.
As a result, AAVE underperformed much of the broader altcoin market during the latest trading session.
Large Coinbase Sale Added Selling Pressure
The decline may have accelerated after a large wallet reportedly sold more than $6.4 million worth of AAVE on Coinbase.
Although the sale accounted for only a small share of the token’s daily trading volume, it introduced additional supply at a time when buying interest was already beginning to weaken. The transaction came as AAVE approached a key resistance level, where many traders were locking in profits after the recent rally.
Combined with profit-taking near resistance, the extra supply added to short-term selling pressure and contributed to AAVE’s latest price decline. While the sell-off was not large enough to change the token’s overall outlook, it likely accelerated the pullback during an already cautious trading session.
Cautious Market Sentiment Also Weighed on AAVE
The wider cryptocurrency market also weakened after its recent rebound.
The total crypto market capitalization declined over the past 24 hours, while investor sentiment remained in the Fear zone. Traders also reduced leveraged positions across Bitcoin and Ethereum, triggering liquidations that spilled into other sectors, including DeFi.
Because AAVE had outperformed many altcoins during the previous rally, it became more vulnerable to a stronger correction once market sentiment cooled.
Outlook for AAVE
AAVE’s recent decline appears to be a healthy pullback rather than the result of any negative development within the protocol.
The earlier rally was driven by improving macro conditions, renewed interest in DeFi, and optimism surrounding Aave’s expanding ecosystem. As prices reached resistance, traders naturally locked in profits while a large Coinbase sale added temporary selling pressure.
If market sentiment improves again and AAVE successfully breaks above its resistance zone, buyers could regain control. For now, however, the token remains in a consolidation phase as investors assess whether the recent correction has created another buying opportunity.
