- NEAR Protocol is rallying above $2.50, supported by AI hype and strong retail inflows.
- However, overbought signals suggest possible short-term pullbacks despite the bullish trend.
NEAR Protocol continued its strong upward move on Monday, climbing above $2.50 as broader crypto markets stabilized. The rally comes amid growing optimism around a potential US–Iran peace agreement and renewed interest in artificial intelligence-related crypto assets. NEAR has now surged nearly 100% in May, supported by strong narrative momentum and rising market participation.
Analysts point to three main drivers behind the latest upside, including AI adoption trends, rising retail demand, and strong technical structure.
AI narrative continues to power NEAR Protocol growth
The strongest catalyst behind NEAR’s rally is the expanding artificial intelligence narrative in crypto markets. Investors are increasingly focusing on projects that combine blockchain infrastructure with AI functionality, especially autonomous agents.
Recent developments in the AI sector, including strong earnings projections from Nvidia, have reinforced confidence in long-term AI growth. This has triggered capital rotation into AI-focused crypto assets, including NEAR and similar tokens.
NEAR Protocol is positioning itself as a blockchain designed for AI native applications. The network supports a system where AI handles user interaction and intent interpretation, while the protocol manages identity, ownership, trust, transactions, and cross-chain execution.
This structure allows AI agents to operate wallets, hold assets, and interact with decentralized marketplaces. The project’s vision is centered on becoming an execution layer for AI agents operating across multiple blockchain ecosystems.
Retail traders drive rising demand and market activity
A second major factor supporting NEAR’s rally is increased participation from retail traders. Market data shows a clear rise in speculative interest since early May, with futures markets reflecting stronger positioning.
CoinGlass data indicates that NEAR’s futures open interest has climbed to $713 million, a record high. This increase from roughly $604 million in the previous session suggests new capital entering the market rather than just price continuation from existing positions.

The rise in open interest aligns with sustained price gains, showing that traders are actively opening new positions in anticipation of further upside.
Funding rate data also support this trend. The OI weighted funding rate remains slightly positive at 0.0019%. This suggests a risk to the environment without signs of excessive leverage or overheating, which often precedes sharp corrections.

Overall, the derivatives market behavior reflects growing confidence in NEAR’s short to medium-term outlook.
Technical structure shows strong bullish control
From a technical perspective, NEAR remains in a well-established uptrend. The coin is currently trading around $2.54, holding firmly above key moving averages.
The 50-period EMA sits near $1.59, the 100 EMA around $1.50, and the 200 EMA close to $1.63. All of these levels remain well below the current price, confirming strong structural support in the trend.

The SuperTrend indicator at $1.90 further reinforces this bullish setup, acting as a key support zone during pullbacks.
However, technical indicators also show signs of overheating. The Relative Strength Index is near 85 on the daily chart, indicating strong buying pressure but also raising the possibility of short-term profit-taking. The MACD histogram remains positive, confirming continued buyer dominance in the market.
On the downside, the first key support level is around $1.90. If price corrects further, stronger support is expected near the cluster of moving averages between $1.63 and $1.50. This zone could attract buyers and help maintain the broader upward structure.
Outlook for NEAR Protocol remains bullish but volatile
NEAR’s current rally is being driven by a powerful mix of AI narrative strength, rising retail participation, and supportive technical conditions. While the trend remains firmly bullish, elevated momentum readings suggest that short-term pullbacks could occur.
As long as NEAR holds above key support levels, the broader outlook continues to favor further upside potential, especially if AI sector enthusiasm and market inflows persist.
