- XRP Coin velocity has surged to a one-year high of 0.013 amid a 43% price drop from its 2026 peak.
- This spike may signal either potential accumulation for a rebound or ongoing distribution by sellers.
XRP has experienced a notable surge in token velocity, reaching levels not seen in a year, even as the broader crypto market struggles. Investors are closely watching to see whether this spike could signal a potential price recovery or further distribution.
XRP Price Under Pressure
At the time of writing, XRP trades at $1.47, representing a 43% decline from its 2026 high of $2.41 recorded earlier this year. The coin has been under sustained selling pressure, particularly in February, losing key support levels above $1.4. Weakness across the crypto market has contributed to this downturn, leaving XRP holders cautious amid high volatility.
What Is XRP Token Velocity?
Token velocity measures how frequently a coin changes hands on the network relative to its total supply. For XRP, this metric has surged to 0.013, marking a one-year peak and matching levels last seen in January 2025. High velocity indicates that tokens are circulating rapidly, either through active trading, holder repositioning, or increasing use of the XRP Ledger for payments and settlements.

Bullish Implications of High Velocity
Some analysts view rising token velocity as a potential early indicator of market recovery. Historically, sharp increases in circulation often precede major turning points. Heavy trading can exhaust selling pressure, allowing stronger hands to accumulate XRP at lower prices. A similar spike in July 2025 coincided with a rebound to $3.66, showing how increased velocity may align with upward price corrections.
ETF data also supports this activity. XRP community figure Chad Steingraber reported steady ETF-related volumes, including roughly $10 million in trades, primarily from Bitwise, highlighting institutional interest alongside retail activity.
At the 11 O-clock hour… XRP ETF's sit at $10Million.
Bitwise again is seeing the biggest volume and single minute buy spikes. These larger spikes are institutional engagement, while "retail" is the small steady volume. https://t.co/hfkbPIm6VI pic.twitter.com/hwDHRU1njS

Caution Amid Rising Velocity
However, a surge in velocity during a downtrend can also reflect distribution, where holders offload positions to exit the market. On-chain data and futures metrics from Coinglass show a drop in open interest, suggesting some traders may be reducing exposure. Investors should approach the data carefully and not assume that high velocity guarantees an immediate recovery.
