- Zcash rebounded 17% after governance concerns eased, with whales accumulating $3.2 million during the dip.
- However, technical patterns still warn of a possible correction if key support levels fail.
Zcash had one of its most volatile weeks in recent months, following unexpected developments within its governance structure. A wave of uncertainty briefly shook investor confidence, but large holders responded quickly, helping stabilize the market and spark a sharp rebound.
Governance Rumors Trigger Sudden Sell-Off
The turbulence began after rumors spread about a possible exit of the Zcash development team. These claims fueled panic selling, causing ZEC to drop by nearly 20 percent. Prices briefly dipped to around $380 as traders reacted to fears of internal instability.
Clarification soon followed. The reported changes were explained as a strategic internal restructuring rather than a failure of the protocol. Once the uncertainty eased, selling pressure weakened. ZEC recovered strongly, climbing more than 17 percent and trading back above the $440 level.
The episode highlighted how sensitive privacy-focused assets can be to governance-related news, especially when communication gaps appear during periods of change.
Whale Accumulation Supports Price Recovery
While retail traders reacted cautiously, large investors viewed the dip differently. On-chain data showed notable accumulation activity during the price decline. Whale addresses increased their holdings by about 4.49 percent, while so-called mega whales expanded their positions by more than 19 percent.
In total, roughly $3.2 million worth of ZEC was accumulated during the sell-off. This buying activity played a key role in slowing the decline and restoring confidence across the market. The presence of strong buyers at lower levels helped prevent deeper losses and reinforced short-term support.
Historically, similar accumulation phases have often signaled growing long-term interest, even when short-term uncertainty remains elevated.
Technical Signals Point to Ongoing Risk
Despite renewed interest from large holders, technical indicators continue to urge caution. On the 12-hour chart, ZEC remains within a rising wedge pattern. This formation is commonly associated with bearish outcomes if support levels fail to hold.
A breakdown below the lower trendline could expose the asset to a correction of up to 30 percent. Analysts have identified potential downside targets near $360 and $309 if selling pressure returns.
Another area of concern involves development activity. Since late December, activity levels have shown a mild decline. For Zcash, sustained innovation has often been closely tied to price resilience over longer periods.
At present, ZEC sits at a delicate crossroads. Strong accumulation offers reassurance, yet technical risks and developer engagement remain critical factors to watch in the weeks ahead.
