  • Aave has expanded Chainlink CCIP to power cross-chain activity across its ecosystem.
  • The integration simplifies asset transfers, yield optimization, and governance across multiple networks.

Aave has expanded its partnership with Chainlink by selecting the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as the default infrastructure for cross-chain activity across its ecosystem. The move extends beyond governance and GHO transfers to support the Aave App and Stable Vaults.

The integration is expected to simplify cross-chain transactions while improving how users move assets and earn yield across supported blockchain networks.

Aave Brings Cross-Chain Features Under One System

Aave already uses Chainlink CCIP for cross-chain governance through the Aave Delivery Infrastructure (a.DI) and for transferring its GHO stablecoin. With the latest expansion, CCIP will now handle more functions within the Aave App.

The protocol will process cross-chain deposits, withdrawals, asset transfers, vault rebalancing, and yield optimization. These operations will run automatically in the background, allowing users to interact with the app without manually bridging assets between networks.

The Aave App currently uses Stable Vaults to manage deposits and optimize returns across Ethereum, Base, and Arbitrum. By integrating CCIP, Aave aims to provide a smoother user experience while reducing the complexity of moving funds between chains.

Stable Vaults and GHO Benefit From the Upgrade

Aave Labs developed Stable Vaults to help businesses integrate fixed-rate stablecoin yield into their own applications. The same technology also powers savings products available within the Aave App.

The GHO stablecoin and Savings GHO already rely on Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard, which enables GHO to move across eight supported blockchain networks.

When GHO moves from Ethereum to supported Layer 2 networks, CCIP uses a lock-and-mint mechanism. Transfers between other supported networks use a burn-and-mint model. This approach helps maintain GHO’s total supply while keeping the stablecoin interchangeable across all supported chains.

Chainlink Continues to Support Aave’s Infrastructure

The expanded integration also strengthens Aave’s long-standing relationship with Chainlink. Since January 2020, Aave has relied on Chainlink Data Feeds as its oracle infrastructure, and CCIP operates through the same decentralized oracle network.

According to Aave, each CCIP bridge lane is secured by at least 16 independent node operators spread across different organizations, locations, and infrastructure providers. The protocol also includes rate limits designed to reduce risk by restricting the amount of value that can move between networks during unusual conditions.

By adopting CCIP as its standard cross-chain infrastructure, Aave now uses a single system to transfer both assets and transaction instructions. This allows governance actions, vault operations, and token transfers to work together more efficiently across multiple blockchain networks.
