Binance Delisting Causes Freefall for Three Altcoins: What Investors Need to Know

  • Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange by volume, has announced it will delist three altcoins: BakeryToken (BAKE), Hifi Finance (HIFI), and Self Chain (SLF).
  • The announcement on September 3, 2025, caused an immediate and significant price drop for the affected tokens, with BAKE and SLF experiencing double-digit losses and HIFI losing 7%.
  • The company will begin the delisting process, which includes ceasing trading on September 17, 2025, and will be followed by a halt to all deposits and withdrawals.
  • This move is part of Binance’s periodic review to ensure listed projects meet strict standards for liquidity, trading volume, and team commitment.
  • Investors are advised to take action before the specified deadlines to avoid potential losses on their assets and any active trading bots.

The cryptocurrency market is no stranger to volatility, but a recent announcement from industry giant Binance has sent shockwaves through the altcoin space. On September 3, 2025, Binance announced it would be delisting three altcoins—BakeryToken (BAKE), Hifi Finance (HIFI), and Self Chain (SLF)—triggering an immediate and sharp price decline for all three. This event serves as a critical reminder of the risks associated with holding smaller-cap cryptocurrencies on centralized exchanges.

The Delisting Decision and its Immediate Aftermath

The announcement, made during the early hours of the Asian trading session, was swiftly followed by a price freefall. BakeryToken and Self Chain both saw their values plummet by double digits, while Hifi Finance experienced a 7% drop. This dramatic reaction is not new to the crypto market; previous delisting announcements from major exchanges have historically led to tokens losing over 40% of their value in a short period, as seen in a similar Binance action in April that affected 14 other altcoins.

The Reason Behind the Delisting

Binance, the world’s leading crypto exchange, maintains a rigorous review process for all assets listed on its platform. This is a crucial step to ensure the integrity of its product suite and to protect its users. The exchange regularly reviews coins and tokens against a set of standards that include:

  • Team Commitment: The project team’s ongoing dedication and development activity.
  • Trading Volume and Liquidity: Ensuring a healthy trading environment.
  • Network Stability and Security: The reliability of the blockchain network or smart contract.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adherence to legal and industry standards.

According to the official announcement, the three tokens no longer meet these stringent requirements. This suggests that the projects may have failed to uphold the necessary commitment or that market conditions, such as low liquidity, no longer justify their presence on the platform.

Timeline and User Actions

Binance has provided a clear timeline for the delisting process to give users time to manage their assets.

  • September 10, 2025, 03:00 UTC: Binance Spot Copy Trading services for BAKE, HIFI, and SLF will be terminated. Any outstanding assets in copy trading portfolios may be force-sold or moved to the user’s Spot Account. Users with active bots are strongly advised to cancel them before this deadline to avoid potential losses.
  • On September 17, 2025, at 03:00 UTC, the three altcoins’ spot trading pairs will be removed and all trade orders will be automatically canceled.
  • September 18, 2025: Deposits of the delisted tokens will no longer be credited to user accounts.
  • The window for withdrawals will close on November 18, 2025, and after this date, the exchange will permanently lose any remaining tokens.

What This Means for Investors

The delisting highlights a fundamental risk in the volatile world of altcoins. For investors holding BAKE, HIFI, or SLF, it is imperative to act promptly. The best course of action is to either sell their holdings on Binance before the trading cessation or withdraw their tokens to a personal wallet or another exchange that still supports them.

This event also serves as a critical lesson for the broader crypto community: the decision to list or delist a token by a major exchange like Binance can have a profound impact on its market value. It underscores the importance of thorough due diligence, not just on a project’s whitepaper, but also on its ongoing viability, liquidity, and team commitment.
