Binance Misses November LUNC Burn, Raising Questions About Terra Classic Support

  • Binance misses its November LUNC burn, breaking a pattern that started in March 2023.
  • Terra Classic faces growing concerns over exchange reliance and weak network activity.

Binance has missed its expected November 1 Luna Classic (LUNC) token burn, breaking a monthly pattern that has continued since March 2023. The delay has raised questions about the exchange’s commitment to Terra Classic, particularly as the community continues to rely on voluntary token burns to reduce the circulating supply.

The missing burn does not pose a major threat to LUNC’s token supply. However, it highlights the risks of depending on one centralized exchange to support the network’s recovery.

Binance’s Monthly LUNC Burn Fails to Appear

Binance’s November LUNC burn has yet to appear in tracked community records, breaking a monthly pattern that began in March 2023.

The previous burn took place on October 1, when Binance removed approximately 334.88 million LUNC from circulation. Community records show that the exchange has completed 50 burn batches so far.

However, the delay does not confirm that Binance has ended the program. Its existing burn policy allows the exchange until the fifth day of each month to calculate trading fees before carrying out the token burn.

A Terra Classic contributor suggested that changes involving wallet security could explain the delay. Binance has not publicly confirmed the reason or announced any suspension of its LUNC burn program.

For the Terra Classic community, the uncertainty carries significance beyond the missing tokens. Regular burns have become an important sign of Binance’s continued support for the project.

How Much Does the Missing Burn Affect LUNC Supply?

The direct supply impact of the missed burn remains relatively small. Binance removed 334.88 million LUNC in October, representing approximately 0.006% of the circulating supply of around 5.5 trillion tokens. At a price of $0.000041 on November 3, those tokens were worth roughly $13,700.

Binance’s monthly burn figures have also varied considerably. In January 2026, the exchange destroyed approximately 5.296 billion LUNC, compared with 275.6 million in August.

This difference shows that the exchange’s contribution can change significantly from one month to another, depending on trading activity and the fees collected.

As a result, missing one monthly burn is unlikely to change LUNC’s overall supply outlook. The bigger concern is whether the delay affects investor confidence in Binance’s long-running support.

Terra Classic Has Its Own LUNC Burn Mechanism

Although Binance remains an important contributor, Terra Classic does not depend entirely on the exchange to remove tokens from circulation.

The network operates its own on-chain burning mechanism through transaction taxes. In August, Proposal 12223 increased the transaction tax to 1.5%.

Under the revised structure, 1.2 percentage points go toward burning LUNC, while the remaining 0.3 points are divided equally between the community and oracle pools.

Historical burn figures also show that Binance is not responsible for most of the tokens removed from circulation.

Community and direct burning efforts account for approximately 58.86% of historical burns. Transaction taxes contribute another 22.06%, while Binance represents 19.08%.

These figures demonstrate that Terra Classic can continue reducing its supply without Binance’s monthly contribution. However, the exchange’s participation remains an important source of support for holders who have followed the burn campaign since 2023.

Did Binance’s $6.3 Billion Hack Cause the Delay?

The missing November burn comes shortly after Binance faced a major security incident involving approximately $6.3 billion in stolen assets.

The October 29 incident attracted significant attention after the FBI attributed the attack to North Korea. Binance reportedly used company funds to cover approximately 95% of the stolen assets.

Reports indicated that attackers exploited an internal AI tool after using a fake job interview to gain access.

The timing has raised questions about whether the security incident affected Binance’s LUNC burn operations. A possible wallet-security adjustment has also emerged as an unconfirmed explanation.

However, there is currently no confirmed evidence linking the hack to the delayed November burn. Binance has also not provided an official explanation for the missing transaction.

Until the exchange clarifies the situation, any connection between the two events remains speculation.

Low Network Activity Remains a Bigger Challenge for LUNC

Beyond Binance’s missed burn, Terra Classic continues to face difficulties rebuilding activity across its ecosystem. On November 3, the network recorded approximately $817,000 in total value locked (TVL), while daily decentralized exchange trading volume stood at around $5,000.

These figures point to limited participation in Terra Classic’s decentralized finance ecosystem. While token burns can help reduce the circulating supply over time, they cannot independently create demand for LUNC. Sustainable recovery also requires stronger liquidity, more active users and increased activity across the network.

For now, Terra Classic remains heavily reliant on community sentiment and trading activity, with Binance playing an important role in supporting market participation.

The missed November burn therefore highlights a broader challenge for the project. Terra Classic needs to build an ecosystem that can attract users and sustain demand without depending heavily on voluntary support from a single exchange.
