Bitcoin Price Outlook: These 3 Events Could Decide Direction This Week

  • Bitcoin is weak and trading near the lower end of its range after recent losses.
  • US jobs data and Fed signals this week will likely shape its next move.

Crypto markets enter a critical week as investors watch US labor market data closely for direction. Bitcoin remains under pressure after recent losses, while macroeconomic signals continue to shape sentiment across risk assets.

Crypto Market Stays Weak After Recent Sell-Off

Bitcoin and Ethereum continued to trade softly over the weekend following a difficult previous week. Bitcoin briefly touched around $74,000 but failed to sustain gains and slipped back toward the $73,000 area in early trading.

Over the past week, Bitcoin has dropped about 5%, extending its move toward the lower edge of its four-month trading range. May also closed in negative territory, with Bitcoin down roughly 3.6% after two months of gains.

Ethereum also struggled to hold key levels, falling back below the $2,000 mark after briefly trading above it during the weekend. Market activity remains subdued, with low trading volumes and weak conviction across major crypto assets.

US Labor Market Data Becomes the Key Focus

This week’s main driver for Bitcoin and broader markets will be a series of US economic releases, especially labor market data.

The Federal Reserve closely monitors employment trends as part of its policy decisions, making these reports highly influential for risk assets like crypto.

Key economic events scheduled for the week include:

  • Monday: May ISM Manufacturing PMI
  • Tuesday: April JOLTS Job Openings
  • Wednesday: May ISM Non-Manufacturing PMI
  • Thursday: Initial Jobless Claims
  • Friday: May Jobs Report

In addition, multiple Federal Reserve speakers are expected to give updates throughout the week, which could add further volatility.

Mixed Signals From the US Economy

Recent economic data has been mixed, leaving markets uncertain about the true strength of the US labor market.

Some analysts believe hiring trends are improving after a weaker period in 2025. Others argue that recent job growth is concentrated in specific sectors such as healthcare, rather than reflecting broad economic expansion.

This uncertainty is contributing to cautious sentiment in both traditional markets and crypto.

Bitcoin Struggles Amid Macro Headwinds

Bitcoin’s recent weakness is not happening in isolation. Broader macroeconomic pressures are weighing on crypto markets, including expectations around interest rates and global economic uncertainty.

According to market commentary, several factors are limiting upside momentum:

  • Ongoing ETF outflows
  • Weak stablecoin growth
  • Low trading volumes

These conditions suggest reduced investor participation and hesitation across the market.

Despite this, some analysts argue that such periods of low activity have historically appeared near major cycle bottoms, even if short-term pressure continues.

Bitcoin Technical Range Remains Intact

Bitcoin is still moving within a broad multi-month range, but recent price action shows it drifting toward the lower boundary. Failure to reclaim higher levels could keep pressure on the market in the short term, especially if upcoming economic data disappoints.

However, any surprise strength in US labor data or shifts in Federal Reserve expectations could quickly change sentiment.

Outlook for the Week Ahead

This week is likely to be driven less by crypto-specific news and more by macroeconomic signals. If US jobs data comes in stronger than expected, markets may interpret it as a sign of resilience, but also as a reason for the Fed to remain cautious on rate cuts.

If the data weakens, risk assets, including Bitcoin, could react positively, although concerns about a broader economic slowdown may limit enthusiasm.

For now, Bitcoin remains in a sensitive position, with traders watching every economic release for clues on the next major move.
