Cardano (ADA) trades near $0.40 after breaking out of a falling wedge, with derivatives data indicating a potential trend reversal despite geopolitical risks.
The recent breakout marks a notable shift for Cardano, which had spent weeks trading within a narrowing range. A close above the falling wedge’s upper trendline, formed since mid-October, has tilted the short-term market structure in favor of buyers. Price action through the weekend remained stable, indicating that sellers have not yet regained control.
Derivatives Data Points to Stronger Trader Confidence
Data from CoinGlass highlights growing interest in Cardano futures. Open interest across major exchanges climbed to about $851 million, up sharply from roughly $644 million recorded last week. Such an increase typically reflects fresh capital entering the market, often aligned with rising expectations of further price appreciation.

Supporting this view, the long-to-short ratio has continued to trend higher and recently stood at 1.06. A ratio above one suggests that long positions slightly outweigh shorts, indicating that more traders are positioning for higher prices rather than a pullback.

Key Levels to Watch After the Breakout
ADA now faces immediate resistance near $0.42, which aligns with its 50-day Exponential Moving Average. A sustained daily close above this area could open the door for a move toward the next resistance zone around $0.49.
Technical indicators also reflect improving conditions. The Relative Strength Index has moved above the neutral 50 level, while the MACD has produced a bullish crossover with expanding positive histogram bars. Together, these signals point to a strengthening price structure in the near term. On the downside, a failure to hold current levels could expose ADA to a deeper pullback toward the $0.32 area.

Geopolitical Risks Cast a Shadow Over Risk Assets
Despite constructive technical and derivatives signals, external risks remain a major concern. Escalating geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Venezuela, and Colombia have increased global uncertainty. Recent statements and actions from US leadership, combined with unresolved conflicts in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, continue to weigh on overall risk sentiment.
In such environments, capital often shifts toward perceived safe havens, strengthening the US dollar and pressuring assets like cryptocurrencies. For Cardano, this means that while the breakout is technically encouraging, broader global events could restrict follow through in the near term.
In summary, Cardano’s recent breakout and improving trader positioning offer reasons for cautious optimism. However, with geopolitical risks still elevated, ADA’s path higher may remain uneven in the days ahead.
